Holy crap. This is even more pathetic than it sounds!
It only allows you to pause and play the movie from one player so others "synced" to it will see the same result. You still need a cell phone of PC to chat!
This is pathetic!

It is sad. A last ditch effort from a dying tech.

HD DVD fan #1 - "Dude, this is sooo cool that we're watching Harry Potter together, but... not together."
HD DVD fan #2 - "Totally cool, sorry but I've got to pause the movie so I can pee."
HD DVD fan #1 - "That sucks, but since you're up can you text me a beer? Oh, wait... maybe I should've just come over to watch the movie."

oooohhhhh!!!! They'll be crowing about this over at AVS! I can just hear Amir now: "HD DVD can do virtual screenings. Blu-ray, not so much"

Why would you even want to do this? I didn't read anything about this, but doesn't each person have to have a copy of the movie too? I am guessing it would kind of be like playing a game online, each has to have his own copy. Its not like you can say, "Hey, I have the new Harry Potter HD DVD... Wanna watch it? I can send it to you through the internet so we can all watch it at the same time!"

I've got a better idea, why don't people go see the movie with their friends in a theatre if they want a shared experience?

The catch of this social movie experience is that only the host will be able to play, pause, or otherwise control the movie.
In other words, your deck is being controlled remotely.

How do they make sure that can't happen without permission?

So this is part of the great web enabled features they say HD DVD can offer.

and the horse is dead.

What a load of crap. its not even fun to do..."yeah we watched the movie at the same time but in our own homes, well were cheap, thats why we bought HD DVD and this way we dont have the added cost of extra pop corn and beer"

How can they even call it a 'community' when you're all by yourself? Here's a better idea. Since everyone in the 'community' have to actually own the movie AND load it in their respective players AND have a cell phone, why don't they just conference call and say: OK, 3,2, 1 and Push Play!

Why does Jesus continually allow hddud to exist? Must be one of those plagues they talk about.

Exclamation Now I know why they want this stupid feature!

They've been ranting for a while about how pron was going to put HD DVD over the top.

Now they can have a "community viewing" of pron and the host can control where to pause, repeat or zoom the movie.

Really, this feature is such a joke (just like the in-movie shopping experience).

I read about this one the other day. I can't say I'm too thrilled over such a concept. I mean, having somebody controlling my movie-viewing? No thanks.
