I'm all for this idea, but I have to wonder who it really benefits at this point.
When they had it walled off to only iTunes, yea that was painful. However, DMA now works with both Google Play and VUDU. Since Warner owns Flixster, it would be a better idea to negotiate DMA capability for their own UV service. If they want to do something truly beneficial to the consumer, they would be focusing on getting other platforms over to UV, such as Amazon, Google Play, Playstation Video, Xbox Video, and possibly even iTunes. If they are serious about growing UV, it needs to be everywhere, and right now it's limited to a handful of vendors. Disney is going to do what they want, and we all know that. I think their (DECE) efforts would be better spent expanding where UV is available, instead of trying to woo a single studio. |

Heh. Tsujihara is dreaming.
Quote:
![]() Disney went through a lot of trouble to set-up what is essentially their own UV system for their movies. They're not going to just abandon that and join UV especially since it seems to be working well for them. Meanwhile, Flixster is being left in the digital dust - not part of DMA, a very buggy interface, and nothing to help them stand out in a crowded field. If I was Tsujihara, I would be trying to make Flixster a DMA partner, fix the technical problems, and try to find something that would make people use Flixster by choice. I don't think he has a good grasp at all of the realities of the current digital environment. |

How have WB, Sony, Universal, & Paramount not copied this feature on this store fronts since DMA launched? |

UV could learn a lot from DMA. Disney has made it so simple to use and understand.
The official UV website sucks. It would be great if they had one central website for users to redeem codes, manage their library, and customer support that can fix problems quickly. |

What we need is for Google and/or Amazon to join UV.

The official UV site already does all that. You can redeem codes, delete titles in your library, contact customer support, etc...

The drop in sales is troubling. I wonder why that is? I thought streaming was suppose to be the FUTURE. I wonder how much piracy has taken a bite out of this future. I wonder how many sales are lost to codes being sold here and other places. I will never purchase a digital code for more than $6 at this point let alone rent one for $6. Yet, I have a feeling these studios think I will. The prices are insane. $1.50 for a 24 hr. HD(X) rental should be the goal, then it might take off en mass, instead of piracy which would be horrible. (see music)
As far as thread topic goes, i'm fine with the way things are because VUDU/DMA, even though I dislike it being owned by Walmart. I couldn't care less about other cloud providers. |

So, it's still possible Amazon can change their mind again. They were willing to use UV once. |

I'd rather have a "Warner Bros. Anywhere" program that would upgrade my iTunes digital copies to HD, then give me UV copies of them, and iTunes copies of my UV digital copies, not to mention the knowledge that if I bought a digital copy of a film or TV show at one service, I'd have a copy everywhere.
I'd rather WB worked harder to get ALL their TV programming UV compatible. I'd rather WB would replace my never redeemed Windows Media digital copies with UV copies. Like others have stated, I'd like to see WB work on trying to get Amazon and Google Play aboard. I don't really have a problem with DMA. I'd like to see improvements made, but I'd really like to see the studios realize how consumer friendly it really is. |

One of the annoying things that studios still don't understand that it should be about convenience for the User/Consumer. They see a Digital Streaming Service like VUDU, and instead of joining them to reach their consumers, they decide to create their own digital service. It's just one more thing I have to log into to get to my content.
Ultraviolet is a step in the right direction. It bridges the gap and lets you choose what streaming service you want to use (Cinemanow, Flixster, VUDU, etc.). It is kinda annoying when you come across a movie you really want in your library but doesn't exist in any of the services. I see this same problem with EA and Origin. I buy most of my games on steam, and just launch it from there. I don't want to have to launch EA's Origin, U-Play, etc to play that one game, that I can't get any other way. It's not that their digital game service is better or cheaper, instead your simply forced to use it. I'm just glad DMA linked up with my VUDU account, without having me log into DMA every time I want to watch a Disney movie. I just want to use One app on my TV to view all my stuff. |
