1. RoboCop (1987)
2. The Crow 3. Darkman 4. 8 Mile 5. Assault on Precinct 13 (2005) Note: I made this thread mainly because I thought Toy Story was set in Detroit. Half-way in making this thread, I realized it probably isn't. I don't even know where the whole Toy Story set in Detroit came from. ![]() |

I thought that too at first, but there are hints that it's set in Detroit through out the film, which makes sense because Sam Raimi is a Michigan boy. Despite the fact that Darkman was filmed in LA I believe.

Why is the filming location relevant to the topic? Cyberpunk asked about films set in Detroit not filmed in Detroit.
If someone made a topic "Favorite Films Set in Space" would you post that Star Wars wasn't filmed in space? |

I live in the metro Detroit area. The two big titans of Detroit cinema are of course, RoboCop and The Crow. And both are excellent. But as a resident, I have to give props to It Follows. It was actually filmed here, captures the feel of the suburbs outside the city very well, and has some recognizable locations.
The theater where the early date scenes were filmed is the Redford Theatre. It's a restored, old-style movie palace, with Asian-themed decor in its single auditorium, a balcony, and a pipe organ for live accompaniment of silent features (and intermission). I've seen some classics there, including Lawrence of Arabia, and some Universal monsters. Last year, they finally showed It Follows there! I have no idea what took so long, other than a modern, R-rated horror being out of their usual wheelhouse. It should be a Halloween tradition. |
