A24 has just released, via iTunes Movie Trailers, the trailer for their upcoming western comedy thriller Slow West, starring Michael Fassbender (Frank, X-Men: Days of Future Past), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Road), Ben Mendelsohn (Killing Them Softly, The Dark Knight Rises) and Caren Pistorius (“Offspring,” The Most Fun You Can Have Dying). Set in late 19th Century Colorado and centering on a young man’s epic search for the love of his life, Slow West follows Fassbender as Silas Selleck, a mysterious and inscrutable stranger acting as the paid protector to sixteen-year-old Scottish aristocrat Jay Cavendish (Smit-McPhee), who is on a reckless journey through the American Wild West. Mendelsohn crosses their paths as Payne, the leader of an intimidating posse of outlaws on their journey to find Rose Ross (Pistorius), the humble farmer’s daughter who fled from Jay’s life.

Written and directed by John Maclean, Slow West was the recipient of the World Cinema Dramatic Grand Jury Prize following its Sundance debut earlier this year. Look for the film to hit both theaters in a limited release and iTunes beginning May 15.

Who let Wes Anderson direct a Western?

Looks fine, I like Fassbender and the film seems pretty unique, granted a kinda struggle to get a proper grasp on the thing from the trailer, the style and the tone seems a bit hard to read. Hopefully the full film with sit a little easier.

Yeah, the trailer is definitely uneven, but if early reviews are to be believed then the film itself sounds like it found the right balance between comedy and thriller. I doubt this will get a showing in my area, but if it does I'll probably check it out. Fassy usually picks good projects.
