Default Thinking of getting Panasonic, my Sony gives 'No Disc' Error

I am now thinking about getting a Panasonic now that my 2009 bought Sony gives the dreaded 'No Disc' message. I tried cleaning the lens (assuming I identified it correctly) with a qtip but got same message (maybe disc not spinning?).

If the region B 'trick' still works on the latest Panasonic region A players with the latest firmware I am contemplating getting one. 3 year warranty is better then the 1 year my Sony had.

The only thing I am concerned about is that one Panasonic model was reported to have sharpening that could not be turned off although I am unsure if it did that on the blu-ray video stream or some other stream.
