Default Exchange DVD for Blu?

A friend of mine just sent me the Planet Earth / Blue Planet combo on DVD. A really great gift only... I'd really prefer it on Blu! So, I have no idea where she bought it nor can I ask her for a return receipt. Any ideas on how I can upgrade these bad boys? The box is still shrink-wrapped and in perfect condition.

You might try Borders.

I got DVD's for X-mass last year and returned them their for credit which I was able to use on Amazon to buy Blu Rays with.

The movies have to be in their system though. In my case the DVD's were actually bought at Borders anyway so it was easy.

I considered Walmart to return the freebie BD movies I don't want. Out of the five free ones I really only wanted two, and might keep a third. Though the discs are new and unopened, I don't think it is right to scam Walmart out of 50 or 75 bucks. Integrity.

I've seen that "combo" at Costco. They are ALWAYS good for returning stuff even without a receipt. They give you store credit but they also do sell Planet Earth on Blu

Why not ebay-it? Take it to a place that buys used dvds, etc.

+1 to Tron3. I also applaud your integrity (something that has somehow been lost in the modern world).

I believe Wal-mart will take it as a return without a receipt but you will only get a Wal-mart card with credit....which in turn you can use to buy the BR version.

You could try their website after getting the store credit from returning the disk, assuming their store credit comes on a card.

Thank you both, gentlemen. It is the way of the blu-bloods, so you are welcome to join us. We may be snobs, but at least we have integrity.

I would inform your friend that while you are pleased with the selection, it's in the wrong format. Tell her that you will try to exchange it for the correct format. She'll learn something about Blu-ray. She may still have a receipt that she could send you, etc.

If she's an adult, she will be able to handle that.

I always applaud integrity but technically, in this case, they aren't losing anything via this exchange. I'd give them something worth what they were giving me back to buy the replacement product from them. So, I don't see this as a moral dilemma.

My experience (in Canada anyway) is that Wal-Mart will take back just about anything, regardless of whether there's a receipt. If they carry the product, they'll take it back. Especially if you're just asking for an exchange.

But then, I haven't shopped at Wal-Mart in about 6 years. They are the devil, after all.

you arent scamming them if they get $50-70 in product back in their stores... They are providing customer service at a free cost to them!

Just remember with Walmart. If you don't have a reciept and are returning/exchanging something. They take your drivers license #. And you are only allowed four returns without a reciept in a 6-month period. I found this out the hard way. I had some items to return and since it was the 4th time. I was not allowed. And the funny thing was is that all the items were from Walmart. I just lost a bunch of my reciepts. The clerk told me to send someone else in the family to do the exchance. (she was being nice. Not sarcastic).
