United Kingdom Rita, Sue and Bob Too Blu-ray (BFI)

The heroes at the BFI have done it again - as if bringing out a deluxe and definitive boxset of nearly all of Alan Clarke's works wasn't enough, they've actually managed to snag this criminally underrated gem amongst Clarke's oeuvre.

I am exceedingly excited ot annouce to you all that the BFI are bringing out 'Rita, Sue and Bob Too' on a dual format edition on the 7th May 2017. Needless to say - I cannot wait, and if you are a fan of Britain, you'll find yourself purchasing this day one.

Nope. I mean the real England as in the England in which the working class are not demonised, northern English towns are shown in their veracity and in which the stiff upper lip are not presented as suave, sophisticated stereotypes. I do not do stiff upper lip, hun

No film reminds me of home quite like Rita, Sue And Bob Too does. My dad still drinks in the working men's club in the area where they made it, and knew the real "Bob". Him and his mates are all in it too. It really does capture the working class culture of 1980s northern England like no other film I've seen.

I remember seeing this late at night on tv as a kid... Traumatised. My dad was not too pleased when I had to ask what were they doing in that car the next morning lol

I hear on the grapevine that the still-in-production documentary is going to be sensational - as with almost anything involving Alan Clarke, they already have more than enough memorable anecdotes to easily meet the "feature-length" brief, and they haven't finished filming everyone yet.
