To sum up: I think Peter Jackson has been watching too many Bollywood action movies, and wanted to incorporate something similiarly silly into his Hobbit movies, which he did with the cave fight in AUJ, and the Barrel chase in TDOS. I haven't watched the third one yet, and am not in a hurry to.
