Default David Lynch pulls out of the Twin Peaks reboot

Quote:
'There wasn't enough money!' David Lynch pulls out of the Showtime reboot of his cult classic Twin Peaks

David Lynch has pulled out of the long-awaited reboot of enigmatic TV series Twin Peaks, which he co-created in 1990.

The 69-year-old, who was set to direct the Showtime revival, announced he had left via a series of tweets on Sunday, Variety reported.

'Dear Twitter Friends, Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks,' David started off.

'After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done.'

He continued: 'This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing.

'Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime. I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently.

There were rumours last week that the series was in trouble, according to Variety.

But David and co-creator Mark Frost have already penned all nine episodes of the planned new series.

And with Kyle Lachlan signed to reprise his role as FBI agent Dale Cooper, there's still hope for fans eager to return to the mysterious goings on in the small town of Twin Peaks that ABC left after two seasons.

Showtime issued a statement on Sunday, saying it still hoped to bring back Twin Peaks.

'We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points.

'Showtime also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.'

Twin Peaks was set to start production this year and premiere in 2016.

Kyle first played the agent in 1990, called in to investigate a murder and other mysterious goings on in the small town of Twin Peaks
