I have a sony Blu ray player and for some resume it will not bring up the resume option when I go to watch lord of the rings or the hobbit. When I try it on my vizio player in the living room, the resume option pops up. Is there some kind of setting that would make this work on Sony blu ray players?

You'll need a USB to activate that function, I just tried with my Sony, once with and once without - the option only appears when the USB stick is connected, I guess they don't have much on-board storage.

Some Blu-ray disc titles require consumers to have 1GB or larger BD-LIVE storage in their Blu-ray player either internally or externally in order to use all the JAVA functions. It is extremely rare to find a Blu-ray player in 2015 that has 1GB or larger built in storage for BD-LIVE.

Is any special format required on the USB stick? I just replaced a mediocre quality Samsung with the Sony BDPS3500. I don't see any pop up notice for resume on any disc. I have a 1gb drive in the USB, formatted as FAT32.
From all I can tell so far, resume is possible only if the sic has not been removed, or power shut off. My Sony DVD player of old would remember a disc even if it was removed and put back in a week later. Doesn't look like the new breed of players do that, but would be interested to know how to get benefits of a thumb drive. |

Not all discs support the feature, but some players do support a resume function (usually the disc plays where you left off - in the middle of an episode or movie) without the pop-up. I think it just depends on the disc, if you have one of The Hobbit BDs it should be easy enough to test the pop-up resume function.
Fat32 should be fine, it's probably better than NTFS as not all players recognize NTFS drives. The only issue might be the size requirement of the drive itself, 1GB should be fine but it might be worth trying a larger drive if you think it could be an issue. |
