Default Crackling dialogue

Hi all,

First post on the forums.

For a while now I've been wondering about the issue of crackling dialogue on certain movies. Typically this often happens when a character yells or shouts. Noticeably it happened lately on dawn of the planet of the apes (for example When Caesar yells 'no' while the apes are discussing the threat from the humans.)

Does anyone else encounter this? It happens with several movies. At first I wondered if it was my system however it happens even when I turn the volume right down and through headphones as well.

If it is happening in more than one or two movies, odds are your center speaker is having trouble keeping up with the volume level necessary to compete with your mains. When it gets to a loud part, you're probably going into clipping. A better center channel speaker would help that.

I thought that at first however I ran the discs I've noticed it on through my pc and the same thing happens at exactly the same points. It must be the mix on the discs.

It's weird that it happens on multiple devices unless they have both got similar settings, if it's coming through 2.0 it could be the disc that isn't balanced correctly for downmixing and the centre waves amplify with the sides when it's mixed down.
I don't have Dawn yet can you suggest any other movies and I will try it out myself.

I had no problems at all with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Interesting. Can you go back and listen again to that scene for me? I've heard it on my downstairs setup (through headphones as well! My upstairs TV and through my pc.
