United Kingdom Kon-Tiki (2012) Soda Pictures

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Kon-Tiki-Blu-ray/121430/

Out 13th April.

Received my copy today and watched the Norwegian version. Some light compression issues and very infrequent light banding (not enough to be an issue IMO) but overall a very nice transfer. Probably a 4.5/5 IMO.

It should be noted this includes the Norwegian (119 mins) and full length English (113 mins) versions, not the abridged (96 mins) English version on the US Blu.

Full specs:

Start-up Trailers (6:1):
- "Electricity" (1:57)
- "The Turning" (1:58)
- "Night Moves" (2:15)
Theatrical Trailer (2:06)

Norwegian DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1
Norwegian Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
English DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1
English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo

English HoH subtitles.

2.40:1 AVC 1080p.

Great to hear it has the 7.1 track from the Norwegian and Swedish disks.
Are there any extras though ? I have the 2 disk Norwegian release but struggle as my Norwegian is poor, and there are no Danish or Swedish subtitles which would help me as okay with reading both languages. I don't think those extras from the bonus disk have been carried over elsewhere. The other Scandinavian disks are light on extras and the U.S. disk has what feels like a TV special on it rather than real features.

Just noticed you say they are hard of hearing subtitles. Is this correct as surely for the Norwegian version they should be normal subtitles, none of this [loud bang] type subtitles ?

Menu states them as HoH, but they mainly just make sure you know different characters are speaking when the camera shot isn't obvious.

I listed all the extras in the first post which is unfortunately just some start-up trailers and a theatrical trailer, however, like I said, we get the 113 min English version rather than the 96 min found on the US release, which AFAIK isn't on any other release. I did find it interesting to compare scenes in Norwegian and English after watching the Soda DVD a few days back which only has 5.1 audio and the 113 min English version.

It's a strong release overall A/V wise IMO.

The hard-of-hearing subs are only on the English version; the Norwegian version just has regular, dialogue-only subs. And correct, there are no extras on the disc other than the trailer.

Thanks for confirming. Good to hear the subtitles aren't fully HOH.
Pity about the lack of extras.

We should be thankful we get it on BD, especially given the massive delay in the UK release, which was well over a year after rest of the world. It puts it in a par with the Snowpiercer debacle, but that is still unresolved.

With two versions of the film on the one BD so almost 4 hours of HD content there is probably no space for extras. Given the market for this will be minimal in the UK there is no way they could afford the bonus disk, plus it's the film which counts, although a commentary would have been nice especially as the cast are fluent in English and isn't the director now working in the US ?

Yeah I believe the directors are making Pirates of the Caribbean 5 now.

7.1 audio ! sold! ... I had asked Soda via Twitter if 7.1 was an option, and at the time they were very keen on securing that mix - glad they were able.

I was really disappointed with this film - obviously, things get changed for dramatic reasons, but this moved so far away from the 'truth' as to be pointless.
