I haven't seen cannibal movies before such as the 2 from grindhouse pictures. Are these even entertaining? I have seen the trailers from other greenhouse blu rays. Doesn't really look entertaining and not easy with the animal killings. I have seen stills about the real animal killings and felt queezy. Guess I'm interested in the appeal for these movies. The killings of the actors in the trailers look horrific and I like Italian horror movies such as Lucio fulci and Dario argento but these kind of killings can't be easy to stomach as well as watching numerous times to own on blu ray. What do people think about these types of films?

No one should really "enjoy" animal killings. These movies where made in a different time when Exploitation filmmakers tried to top the shock and gross out value.
Movies like Cannibal Holocaust or Cannibal Ferox (or Evil Dead and Faces of Death) used to be "dare you to watch" movies. I do like these cannibal movies for what they are (gritty, nasty, cheesy, violent gutter grindhouse cinema), but I always close my eyes when it comes to animal killings. |

I don't like the animal killing. Believe an animal should only be killed for food or mercy. The rest of it they try to see how far they will go before someone says no. I watch it to see how far they go and how much I can watch of these old exploitive films.

This is an argument that gets thrown at horror fans a lot, but I can see you're asking out of genuine interest, so I won't get defensive about it.
It depends upon your definition of 'entertainment'. For some people, entertainment comes out of watching things that dare to push boundaries and address taboos (which obviously cannibalism is). For some this is curiosity, for others it's simply about invoking feelings. The feeling of horror and disgust is the primary goal of these films, and if that's what you're looking for than they achieve it. It's the same primal urge as continuing to watch and listen to news reports about death and atrocities, or reading a crime novel - just in a different way. I don't think I've met one person, even fans of cannibal films, who has ever enjoyed watching the real animal killings on screen. However, many watch uncut versions to get a sense of the history of exploitation cinema. As it stands, the films would be incomplete without them. In no way does this condone the action, or imply that it doesn't matter. The fact that people are still shocked is important. Otherwise we'd all be insensitive jerks, right? |

Wait... what are we talking about here? Aren't we talking about films about people who eat other people? Or are we talking about some kind of documentary type productions? Your questing implies that whatever we are talking about here involved the actual killing of animals being filmed. I'm a bit confused.

Anyway, in Apocalypse Now an ox gets sacrificed (chopped into pieces) for real and you never hear anybody complain about that. |

The animal killings really are not that bad. I'd get more choked up if it was a dog or a cat but who cares about a tortoise? Granted, I'm not going out and randomly killing animals but seeing a turtle die compared to a human? Even if the human death is fake, I'd still put the human death as worse than the animal.
I heard that Cannibal Holocaust was a really bad film (gore wise). When I finally saw it and the only gore was animal deaths (pretty much), I was sad that it wasn't the shocking movie was had hoped for. I get that killing real animals is bad but I just don't understand why everyone describes it as the "end all, be all" of gory horror movies. |

Another film that i was going to watch but refused to after reading was wake in fright with donald pleasence. this was made in 1971 and shows a real kangaroo hunt with guns at night. not something i could stomach. i did see some of it and couldn't continue. From what i saw they have vehicles with spotlights and aim them at the kangaroos then start shooting them. At first before looking up about this i thought it was fake so it didnt seem so bad. But when i read that it was real i really felt upset and was tearing.
