Default One more reason to not go to theaters...

I just saw this local story, and it kind of creeped me out:

http://www.indystar.com/story/news/2...ey=&autologin=

One more reason to have a home theater!

I wish I could've read the article, but too many pop-up ads prevented me from seeing the page at all. I gathered that it was something related to bed bugs...

Commercial theater seats are full with germs and bacteria because, they have been used by thousands of people who do not have a clean personal hygiene, and living in an uncleaned household, including their children and pets. My advice is to take a can of Lysol Aerosol Disinfectant, and spray the seat and armrest thoroughly before you sit, especially if you're wearing a short sleeve shirt, tank top and shorts.

Hmm...I only had one popup, asking to subscribe. But I was able to click the "x" and read the article.

Any public area has the potential for this, although it isn't very nice - and this case particularly extreme - your home is really the only environment you have control over. And even then the control is limited.

Oh, please....
Yes, there have been a few incidences of bedbugs in movie theatres. Far more homes already have them.

Even if you love your home theatre, you should want movie theatres to survive.

If we kill off the movie theatres, you kill off the dominant revenue stream and movie budgets will crash like a stone. That's not necessarily terrible because smaller, more intimate art-type films can be quite good, but if you want your big-budget blockbusters, then we need movie theaters to survive.

Without movie theatres, every movie becomes the equivalent of "direct to video". Do you really want that?

Also not all theaters are the same. Though many have switched seat materials if not the seats themselves.
The theater I attend/work has a crew that comes in and cleans the seats, but also the seats have been switched out to newer versions and some are faux leather. So not all theaters are the same, some do actually keep up on this. btw the place I am talking is a major theater chain.

lol, I think you're being just a little alarmist. I don't think this thread is about to put movie theaters out of business.

And do the studios really make so much more from my $8 theater ticket than they do from a $10 - $20 Blu-ray purchase?

I've spent far more money on movies for my home theater than I ever did going to theaters. I rarely ever went to theaters throughout my life, but since getting into the home theater hobby my Blu-ray collection is approaching 500 titles, so I think your logic has failed you in this case.
