Something like the Blu-Ray.com's My Movies app, but for books. I figure, hey I have a smartphone now and book collection app would be mighty handy when stopping by books stores.
Unfortunately, either there aren't that many such apps out there and some seem to have disappeared altogether while others haven't had an update in years. Searching the Play Store (and Amazon's app store) hasn't been too fruitful as a slew of other unrelated apps (or things like apps that are collections of books themselves) end up in results. Web searches has turned up some articles, but many of them focus on just stuff available on iPhone/ iPod touch which don't seem to have Android versions. After some digging to find some decent options, I am currently checking out the Goodreads app but I'm also testing Evan Leybourn's Book Catalogue (both free). Both apps seem to be generally well regarded (and Book Catalogue can interface with your Goodreads account), still getting used to using them so any frustrating bits may just be me learning to use the apps well. Ideally it would be nice to find something that can automatically tag and sort books by genre much like the My Movies app does with movies; still figuring out if Goodreads and Book Catalogue will do a good job with this. |
