Face/Off Blu-ray

Face/Off Blu-ray Review

HDD has confirmed DNR. Time to use the U.S BD as a bonus disc to the import copy and call it 2 disc special collector's edition.

The overseas Blu-ray has less to no DNR.

Does anyone remember that scene near the end, where both Travolta and Cage are supposedly jumping out of the exploding boat... I bet you can see the stuntmen's faces very clearly in the BD version.

Yes. In-fact stuntmen's faces can be spotted in most of the action scenes.

I have seen both versions HD DVD and the Blu-ray Import. The VC-1 encoded HD DVD version was excessively DNR-ed. Though Blu-ray import wasn't DNR-ed it doesn't contain any film extras and has just 10 chapters.

The HD DVD version features DD+ and a full blown DTS ES 48/24-bit track which had better directionality when compared to the Blu-ray import though it was lacking in LFE department.

I expect the Paramount Blu-ray version to be DNR free as they usually do format specific encodes and offers higher bit rates on Blu-ray like they did for Babel, WTC, Disturbia, We were Soldiers, Black Rain, Shooter etc.

Yes, kinda like the car chase in The Rock wasn't shot in San Francisco, BUT IN SAN PEDRO!

I'll be keeping my import UK version from Buena Vista.
The picture is incredible and the PCM 5.1 track is fantastic.

Wasn't there some censorship cuts on this release? Amazon.uk lists this as 133 minutes, but the U.S. version is listed as 140 minutes.

The knife scene that lasts for about 7 seconds was reported to be chopped in the U.K release though some vehemently denied it. However all scenes were intact in the non U.K editions. The running time discrepancies you see is due to some minor differences in the opening and ending credits.

Really? I did not know that. Maybe some of it, but definitely not all of it. Does San Pedro have hills like that? I live in SF and was there when they filmed it. I'm positive all the scenes with the hills and cable car was in SF as I recognized the streets and stores. Other parts of the chase I can't recall (maybe it's time to rewatch). The cable car was a fake with wheels and tires, not on rails. And the rails were fake too...just some stick-on tape or something.

So a 7 second scene of Travolta with a butterfly knife is all that was cut. That's nothing major. I guess I'll import this one. Thanks.

Yeah, I'm leaning that way as well.

BTW, the running time on mine is listed as 139 minutes on the back cover.

I also looked for it on Amazon and didn't find it. Most likely will have to visit Best Buy.
