Does anyone here ‘Frankenstein’ releases together (putting multiple discs/booklets etc into one case for a ultimate complete package)
or do you actually prefer keeping all your releases (4K, Blu, DVD) separate and kept exactly as how they were released? For example, Iron Man 1 & 2 on 4K are missing the bonus disc from the 2-disc Blu-ray ultimate editions so you could either A) keep both the 4K and blu-ray copies B) Get a custom 3-disc 4K case and combine all the discs together. Another example is some of the new Arrow 4K’s like Dressed To Kill have new booklets different to the original Arrow Blu-ray releases so you could either A)Keep both copies B) put the old booklet from the Blu-Ray inside the 4K case along with the new booklet to have everything together in one case. |

I put the Hitchcock 4K sets’ discs into the old much smaller Blu-Ray boxed set and gave away the two sets of Blu-Rays that were left over from that.
I’ve been thinking of combining some releases I have double dipped, but haven’t actually done it. I do have some Frankensteined Indicator releases where I’ve added a whole separately sold booklet or empty box retroactively. |

Been doing this since I started buying blurays. At first it was merging in the old DVDs, now it is adding the bluray to a 4k only release or putting the 4k disc in the bluray release, depending on what packaging I prefer. I have a load of 3 disc plastic steelbook inserts for modding those as well, where relevant.

It's my favourite part of curating. Figuring out how to make any given release a custom ultimate edition. Most recently I squeezed the first release dvd of Ronin into the SE digipack because the former had an extra (Filming in the Fast Lane featurette) that is 3.5mins longer than the version on the latter, and a unique booklet.

I've been doing this since 2009 or so, when I first started collecting BDs and still wanted to keep DVDs with them (originally so I can retain missing extras). Now I'm doing the same with UHDs and BD. I have a bunch now that have three generations of discs (DVD, BD, UHD) in a three-disc case or bigger.
It's become challenging when factoring in steelbooks and other fancier packaging. These days I find it easier to just keep the UHD copy on the shelf and stow a BD or DVD in a binder or a box as an alternate copy. |

I do a lot of Frankensteining, given how many of my Blu-rays are going bad I really wish I had kept more DVDs.
I have a rule though of never being satisfied with just owning a film on UHD, I fully expect those to become unplayable quicker than any other format. A 4K-only release to me is extremely poor value and feels incomplete. |

Once you get over a certain number it is the only way to keep a collection 'sane'. Frankensteining is great for keeping key elements from previous releases. It also makes me appreciate our 14mm phat boxes a lot more.
The only items I won't Frankenstein are LEs. At the moment BDs and UHDs of Arrow LEs tend to sit side by side. But that may change. I've had to store all my Poundland cheapies in Slappa disc binders as I had no room for them. I think I managed to pick up around 700 cheapies bach in the heyday. I am looking at starting another curation wave. This time relegating more of the 'fodder' to binders and keeping the shelving for LEs and boutique releases. |

The majority of my stuff I have to keep in folders because of space,
plus I have to move regularly for my job. But yes, I do Frankenstein a few things, I keep the babylon 5 blu rays in the boxes for the dvd set, as it’s own set is so crap. With Arrow special editions (and a few others) I bought on blu, I get the 4k standard editions and pack them altogether in the same amaray case, then fit them into the cardboard box. |

My Donnie Darko edition has a whopping six discs (two-disc DVD, two-disc Blu-Ray, two-disc UHD). Most of my other Arrow editions are just 2-3 disc 22mm cases with the older Blu-Rays included. I kinda hate having to find those size cases, but for some reason I didn't think about just sticking normal US-size cases in the slipboxes. |

This is something I'm looking to start doing this year due to the lack of space I have currently. Boutiques and certain special editions are off the menu, but studio releases of franchise movies/shows that I can drop into one boxset? Absolutely.
I've been designing a lot of box art recently but I'm actually struggling with how to print slipcases and boxes. I need to do some experimentation! |

I don't know if this counts as Frankensteining, but Amazon US shipped me the Tarzan disc in a black DVD replacement box with no artwork... I shipped them back the empty box as a "return" and did my own artwork for the disc, imitating the official one
Should add more details but I'm lazy |
