Crunchyroll has it, so never, unless they somehow lose the license.

Crunchyroll seems to be a problem with retroanime.

It's no longer streaming (not even available to buy digitally) afaik. Unless otherwise, we can safely assume that Crunchyroll no longer has it.

Still available to purchase on Apple TV, so unless it is separate sub-license from Crunchyroll, it's likely they still owns some rights (along with Serial Experiments Lain).

Hmm, that's an odd one; the information section says "Studio: Funimation" So has that been up a long time, and they never updated it? If so, is that information even accurate? If they still have rights, why take it off of Crunchyroll?

Lain, by the way, doesn't mention Funimation or Crunchroll anywhere. Shouldn't it, if they've licensed it through them?

Not saying that Crunchyroll doesn't have the licenses either, but it just seems a little odd.

Outlaw Star STILL hasn't transferred, and it was re-released almost a year ago, indicating the rights are still very much active.

The only titles where you can speculate the license actually expired are ones that did transfer, but then were removed, like a bunch of Kodansha titles last year (Ex: Ah! My Goddess: Flights of Fancy, Air Gear, BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, Big Windup! Season 1, Chobits, Ghost Hunt, Initial D, Peach Girl, School Rumble, Suzuka, xxxHOLiC).

What I've seen people most commonly think is the issue is FUNimation changing its name to Crunchyroll, LLC and shutting down FUNimationNow. The contracts stated that it must be on FUNimation, but they can't put it on Crunchyroll because of the name change in March 2022, so they have to wait until the license is up for renewal to renogotiate the contracts.

In fairness, the list of titles that weren't transferred over is pretty long, and it's possible that some of the titles on that list were simply allowed to expire/couldn't be renewed. But even if that were true, you wouldn't be able to know that unless someone else licensed them; you're right to say that an absence from CR isn't evidence.
