MS 's tech, at least what they have demoed, isn't Virtual Reality (VR) but Augmented Reality (AR).
It also has interesting but far less grand implications for gaming, as its main use will be to simulate things in a real setting (cf doing a building block kind of activity like Legos or Minecraft, or virtual sports). Its main use will probably be for UI purposes (as seen in the painting/ building app with the Hololenses), which is why Nasa plans on using it for AR activities, but has partenered with Sony (Morpheus) and Occulus (Rift) for VR applications. |

I've already seen the final prototype and it looks cool and more awesome than Google Glass. I'm curious about its capability to bring people to Mars and other planets. Hopefully, it's the real Mars, the exact Mars, not the new imaginative Mars made up by Microsoft. It would be awesome.

I have a feeling at E3, Sony & MS are going to go all out with VR presentations as 2016 is shaping up to have multiple VR devices.
We will see who wants it more this Summer in the console market. PC is getting more competetive in this area. |
