Three Billboards and The Shape of Water should be a shoo-in for a Best Ensemble Cast nomination.

As a member of SAG-Aftra (and an extreme narcissist!)
I am hoping my background work on House of Cards and Veep gets recognition! But in all seriousness: I want to see Chastain (Molly's Game) and Robbie (i, Tonya) in there along with Streep (Post) Hawkins (Shape of Water) and McDormand (3 Billboards) ... but I'd be happy with Ronan (Lady Bird) up there as well Supporting actor, Sam Rockwell (3 Billboards) is basically already my vote, his performance is simply amazing! I'm not sure if All The Money in the World was screened for the nominating committee, but I would love to see Plummer get a nom for what he did (and i hope the DGA and Oscars make sure Ridley Scott is on their short lists for what he did and how he took back his film from controversy)... and I'd love to see Ray Romano get a surprise nom for Big Sick, he was awesome in that flick (my favorite of the year so far) Supporting Actress, again, my vote is damn near already cast for Laurie Metcalf (Lady Bird) For actor.... Tom Hanks has been in 3 films he should have been Oscar nominated for in recent memory: Captain Phillips (he DID get a Sag nom for this), Saving Mr. Banks and Sully... so he better not get passed over again for The Post! Call Me By Your Name is the big movie this year... I am a Chalamet (sp??) Fan cuz of his work in Lady Bird, so.i am looking forward to seeing this flick, but I have not seen a single movie that Hammer was in and thought he was that great, so i am hopeful this movie turns me around on the dude! TV side... it is a shame that House of Cards will pry be shut out, I agree with no individual nom for Spacey, but Wright deserved any and all accolades as does that cast minus Spacey. I'd also love to see the Impractical Jokers get nominated!! (Obviously a joke, but still my favorite show on tv) I think Stranger Things is a lock for a nom, I enjoy the show but not my favorote... I am a fan of David Harbour so it'd be nice for him to get some individual recognition. Brooklyn Nine Nine should be up for every TV award there is! Such a great show and it fires on all cylinders with no weak links! The Middle is another great show that never got any love, Eden Sher shoukd have been nominated every season for her role as Sue. The Mayor has been a really good freshman comedy. Can't wait for the noms! God damn I love awards season! Last edited by BigPudge; 12-13-2017 at 06:09 AM. |

Every year great performances miss out. With only room for five in each category it would be difficult to not shut some out. Stewart was indeed great though. I think the best female performances I've seen this year have been McDormand and Jennifer Lawrence. Stewart would currently be in my top 5 but not so sure she will make the cut by the time I see more of the recent acclaimed films that have yet to expand here.

One should note that we'll most likely have our future Best Picture Oscar winner among the nominees for Best Ensemble.
Ever since SAG started giving out awards, in 1996, only once has the Oscar winner not been previously nominated for Ensemble: Braveheart, in the very first year. |

Dang... really disappointed in nothing for The Post or Molly's Game.
Real happy to see Big Sick get up there for Best Cast. And whereas I think Dunkirk will be a big player at the Oscars... it never stood a chance at the SAG Awards as it isnt really an actors movie inasmuch as it was a tremendous film. The acting is all amazing, but it is the scope of the film itself that is what made it. Really hope to see Nolan grab an Oscar for director this year. Although I see that Dunkirk DID get a much deserved nomination for their Stunt Performers. Last edited by BigPudge; 12-13-2017 at 02:23 PM. |

Anyway, after somewhat underwhelming Globe performances, I feel like Lady Bird and Get Out are the big winners here, as well as Denzel Washington (wasn't really considering him as a contender, but with Globes and SAG think you have to). The losers are Call Me By Your Name (no ensemble and particularly no supporting actor nomination when it had two shots), and Tiffany Haddish and Patrick Stewart (if anything they seemed like better chances at SAG than the academy, and combined with no Globe nom feels like any critic's choice nomination momentum is gone). |
