Default Hastings and rentals

Looks like Marmaduke finally went ahead and decided to 'pick' a side. At least that's my current outside observation I'm sure others have a more accurate story than I, but oh well.

At least one of the test stores [and one of the top 3 volume stores in the chain] has started to rent Blu-Ray discs finally. Unless they buried HD-DVD rentals inline [which is a bad idea, but I wouldn't put it past corporate], they are only renting Blu-Ray discs.

The sale section is still pretty evenly stocked, however.

Talking blu-ray rentals

I actually work at Hastings and we are officially renting out about 30 or so Blu-ray movies. We don't have any HD DVD rentals and after talking with my manager, they aren't going to be renting HD DVD, and even if they were it would be a while. Blu-ray is taking over! Amen to that!!!

What I thought, you're in a test store too?

Or are you actually 9608?

Again anybody know the price? I called my local Hasting in Topeka Kansas last night to make sure they rented them, but forgot to ask how much they cost.

Hmm,
I could tell you, if I remembered my receipt.

I want to say it's 4.99$. It may be 5.99 though. 2$ early return credit though.

RevShare is the normal course of action for rental programs for Hastings, nice article. That it went chain-wide surprises me, but then again, it's a good sign. It also explains the title availablity being what it was [ie, primarily SPHE titles].

Nice though.

For some reason I remember seeing $5.99 on the wall for the BD rentals. could be wrong though.

Well, different price scales are used at different stores.

But for rentals it's odd. 5.99$ sounds about right if they're giving the 2$ return credit.

They are a little higher than average rentals, but het, it's Blu-ray! I the rentals where I work are $4.99 for a week.

Just rented Casino Royal, it only cost me $4.99. They only had Sony titles, which was dissappointing (but not suprising). I would of thought they would of had Fantast Four Rise of The Silver Surfer, at least.

From the terms of the deal, it's just going to be Sony titles for a while. It's a profit share deal with SPHE afterall .

I took a look at the Blu rental sections at both the Joplin, MO store and the Pittsburg, KS store last night. The revenue sharing deal seems to be ONLY with Sony, as there were no titles for rent at either store that wasn't from SPHE.

9608 expanded their blu ray rentals recently.

LGF and Disney titles got added. Didn't notice any fox, warner or paramount titles.

Not really in the loop anymore to know if that was similar promotion item as with Sony's profit-share deal, or if they simply decided to expand from sale numbers.

Default Hastings renting both HDDVD and Blu

I live in Spokane, WA and the Hasting's that I goto unfortunately rents both HD-DVD and Blu. On a side note, my wife and I have rented two movies on Blu so far and both times she was amazed at the quality. She is a huge movie buff and originally didn't want me to purchase a PS3 as I already had a 360. Now she can't get enough of the PS3. She plays Warhawk all the time and loves the picture quality of Blu. GO BLU in 2008!

*blink* Spokane is renting both? That is ... bizaare. Really bizaare, wonder why that is honestly.

Sidenote, the store I'm refering to, is usually the top volume store in the franchise [it competes sure, but it was my store, I know it's the best! :P, top 3 always at least], which is why I'm confused.

Will have ot dig to see if thye have an HD-DVD section at ours. It could just be a case of their Video Manager converting sale to rental for their own reasons.
