Default Breaking My Rules Because of POTC!

When I started buying blurays I swore up and down that I wouldnt buy bluray movies for which I already owned the dvds. At least not untill this format war was over. This week I planned on buying Superbad on Blu & POTC 3 on dvd since I already had the first 2 on dvd and Im so anal that I like everything to be the same in a set. This is why I bought Live Free or Die Hard and Spider Man 3 on dvd. But then you guys posted that $10.00 off coupon and I coudnt resist the blu Pirates for the same price as the dvd. So I ended up getting them both on blu and man o man .. out of all the blu rays i have ... which isnt much ... pirates blows them all out of the water. So now Im breaking my one rule and buying POTC 1 & 2 today on blu. Its a new era for me.

Anyways ... where is the cheapest I can get both POTC 1 & 2?
Do you think Im crazy for holding out this long?? I feel bad for not getting Spider Man 3 and Die Hard 4 on blu.

I wouldn't worry about it. I was the same way for awhile but I had a similar experience - POTC ruined it for me, too, when 1&2 came out. Now I still favor the new releases, but I replace stuff in some instances, if I figure the PQ/SQ was worth it (sleepy hollow, Unforgiven, Black Hawk Down) I was right every time, esp. Unforgiven. plus a surprise - Blazing Saddles looks like a whole new movie to me vs. my SDVD copy.

POTC 1 and 2 were both part of the BOGO Amazon did with Disney a few weeks ago. I expect they'll do so again sometime soon. Look for it there and get both for the price of one when and if they do.

Being spoiled by Blu is a commom thing among men...I would wait for another Disney BOGO and them pick up the other 2 movies...thats what I am planning on doing.

Yeah, you should wait for the BOGO. Besides from paying no tax, you get free shipping

That's the beginning of a good rule, but it doesn't follow through for every movie. My thinking is that I'd only replace a movie on Blu-ray if the picture would be greatly improved over the DVD. Other movies that would benefit are long movies that are currently split on two DVDs.

I know this is off topic...but a movie that I liked on DVD that was split into 2 discs was "Gangs of New York". I believe it a Buena Vista film...any word on that one coming to Blu?

It is distributed by Miramax in the US. However you can get it from the UK via amazon.co.uk for about $36.50, plus shipping. It says it is all regions but you should verify from a different source.

Thanks for the info. Its a good movie, but I'll probably just wait.

I have Shrek 3 on DVD as a gift. Yes, I wanted to complete my DVD set, but couldn't get it on BD either.

Now in the case of Spider man, I bought the BD Trilogy, but I don't care to finish my DVD set with 1 and 2. Those will be sold.

My brother is like you, but he is seeing the light now that I bough him the Die Hard Quadrilogy on BD.

I did the same thing for Die Hard series. I have their THX edition boxset but I still bought the Die Hard 4pk Blu set.

Warning on buying POTC: Curse of the Black Pearl - Misframed for 9mins of the film. Remember the Back to the Future issues. Sames with this disc. Replacement discs are coming, so be patient till they hit stores.

Framing issue IMO is minor and barely noticible unless you are looking for it. Disney is making good on "fixing" but it's not enough to put off enjoying one of the best hi-def movies out there. Buy it now and enjoy it now. Worry about the exchange later.

I was able to get POTC:AWE for free. The walmart where I bought the PS3 with 10 free movies told me I could exchange the movies for different ones as long as it wasn't open. So, I took one that I hadn't opened yet and exchanged it for POTC. Now I have the set on BD. .
