Germany makes world's first 1.1 BD title

With the Blu-ray release of the film Neues vom Wixxer on December 10, 2007, the studio Ufa offers the first Blu-ray Disc with Profile 1.1 (Bonus View) features. This title has been done by authoring studio Imagion and will probably be the worldwide first with this functionality, and offers a switchable Picture-in-Picture with video commentaries by the filmmakers.

However, there aren't any players in Germany that support these features yet. Michael Becker, Imagion AG CEO, said, "At the moment of the release of Neues vom Wixxer there are no Profile 1.1 players. Because of this, we didn't list this feature among the special features of the disc. We see this disc as part of a test phase to show what will soon be standard on this format. For all users that cannot use this feature on their players, the video commentary will be featured as an audio commentary."

Neues vom Wixxer is released at the same time on Blu-ray and HD DVD. Apart from the PiP video-commentary, the HD DVD version offers "dynamicHD" online functions, also developed by Imagion.
