Default Projector screen change questions

Hello,

I’ve had a .8 gain Black Diamond by Screen Innovations for the past 4 years now, and have been severely disappointed with it since I first got it. The screen shimmer has made it unwatchable for me. I understand this doesn’t bother some as much as it does me, and that some people don’t even see it.

I will soon be able to order a new screen and will be sticking with SI due to their phenomenal customer service. I received a few samples and from them and have landed on the 1.0 white unity screen. The 1.2 gain slate screen still had too much screen shimmer for me. Colors look great on the unity, and the shimmer is completely removed. I did notice decreased black levels, and am wondering how much of a benefit it would be to paint my entire room matte black, including the drop ceiling.

My current projector is a Sony VPL-HW55ES.

Does anyone have any experience with similar situations, or just general suggestions?

Thank you

I have a white silver ticket screen and my home theater is all black (pics in my gallery). My Sony 45es throws a really good picture with my setup. Sorry but I don’t have any experience with SI screens.
