Default Will Samurai Flamenco ever be licensed?

There was a Sentai-esque anime a few years back I recently learned about called Samurai Flamenco. Do you think it will ever be licensed in the US?

I thought AoA had the license and just never released it? Though maybe just for streaming.

I hope so. We have been seeing more shows get picked up a few years after their debut.

Wasn't that on around the same time as Kill la Kill?

I can see why it wasn't picked up, as KlK totally ate up all of the attention (for all the right reasons, though).

They aired in Japan at the exact same time. Aniplex Of America localized both, but 1 was put on Blu-ray, DVD and even showed on Toonami. The other never has anything amazing happen to it for U.S. fans.

I can't help but wonder how you don't know that there is a UK release.

If you'd just used the search function at the top of this site, with the region set to "world", you would know that there is a UK release of Samurai Flamenco.

I see this way too often on this site, and specifically in the anime section. Are people simply not aware of the vast database of Blu-ray releases that this site has?

Samurai Flamenco is a show that should find an American audience. While it does eventually become a parody of Japanese superhero tropes, the opening arc isn't far removed from Western superheroes.

Its streaming on North American Netflix, so it is licensed. I think you mean, 'released on BD in North America'.

True but the listing doesn't specify what language(s) are included and that's mostly the point.

Because I don't care about international releases. I was asking for a US release specifically. I've said this several times before, but I'm done with the importing DVD/BDs game.

Then the answer to your question is no - just forget the series even exists. It's an AoA title which they long ago decided not to release on disc, and it's sub only, so you'll never see a physical release in the US, let alone dubbed. End of story.

Aniplex loves to sit on properties that they own, Rurouni Kenshin and FMA for example.

Well both of those have already been released previously. There is no reason for them to do overpriced sets when regular ones already exist.

I don't know FMA and Rurouni Kenshin are pretty expensive now if you go for the Season boxsets or a Complete Series Set. The single volumes are cheap though for those who don't mind hunting all of them down with sacrificing a lot of shelf space. It's pretty much what happens with Aniplex titles. Sekirei is pretty expensive now too.

I actually got the last copy of FMA on Blu-ray my Best Buy carried.

Samurai Flamenco was reported to flop spectacularly for Anime Limited, to the point where Andrew from AL said it had struggled to even recover the cost of the BBFC certification it was required to have.

It probably won't be getting a US release any time soon, given AoA have the rights and even a lower cost version couldn't wash its face.

Well that's lame, but how could it flop if they never released it on video?
