Default Tomorrowland: the winds of change?

I read this article last night and basically dorked-out on the Tech on display, wouldn't it be nice to be a billionaire with this in your house?

http://www.cnet.com/news/tomorrowlan...-in-a-theater/

But then I woke up this morning and started wondering, is this where The Industry/Hollywood is headed?

Could native 4K with it's requisite increased resolution and color depth be more immersive/realistic than current 3D?

When new players and discs arrive (later this year?), Tomorrowland could be a launch title and could become the 'poster child' for native 4K.

I wasn't jacked up about any of this before, but I've decided that I'm at least curious now.

All of that technology sounds great, but none of it is exclusive from stereo 3D. It's just increased quality of monocular depth and auditory cues--color range, resolution, brightness, contrast, and sound directionality.

yeah, other than the glasses detracting slightly(which can be compensated for), this is all stuff which could be used to enhance a 3-D presentation.

They even mention Dolby Cinema 3D.

I hope you guys are right, but it almost seems like The Industry is trying to 'hit the reset button'.

Remember the common phrase in early BD reviews, everybody was looking for 'pop and 3D-effect' in the best 2D BDs.

Later we got *actual* pop and 3D-effect with real 3D BDs, but now it seems like they want to roll everything back to 2D again with the hope that 4K can pick up the slack.

The main motivation is money, I assume (no 3D conversions, no 3D cameras, single-disc 4K releases, smaller packaging, fewer SKUs).

Maybe during E3, we'll get more info on UHD and where all of this is going.
