Well, as of Summer this year, The Marvel Universe as we know it will be no more.
In its place will be a New Marvel. At first it will be One World, with different Realities, TimeLines and Universes taking on the appearance of Countries on that world. Marvel 616 and Ultimate will both merge into one. Their histories and characters bleeding into each other. Then once the Secret Wars Mini-Series ends, everything changes once again. All the current books will be ending either right before Secret Wars starts or soon after it does. |

![]() ![]() Tuesday Marvel Comics announced that its 50+ year universe was coming to an end with Secret Wars. Wednesday they revealed that some characters will be counting down to it in as yet-unnamed series branded under the umbrella title of Last Days. This branding, the first of three "different types of series" for Secret Wars according to Marvel, will feature stories in which Marvel “heroes face impending obliteration!” said David Gabriel, Marvel’s SVP of Sales & Marketing. “What would you do if you learned today was your last day on Earth?” added Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso is a press release. “That’s the question your favorite Marvel heroes are going to ask themselves in their Last Days story lines as they brace for Secret Wars and the end of the Marvel Universe.” These unnamed series will run concurrent to the main Secret Wars title launching in May, with various Marvel characters learning and dealing with the fated death of their universe as part of an Incursion. “Last Days is the first of three new brandings for series unique to Secret Wars,” explained Gabriel. “Each branding will bear its own unique trade dress and logo treatment, clearly defining its relationship to the main Secret Wars story. This will make it easier for fans to experience the full scope of Secret Wars. " Last edited by Gold Ranger; 01-23-2015 at 08:56 PM. |

![]() ![]() Marvel Comics revealed the second (of three) umbrella banner for comics tying into their Marvel Universe-ending Secret Wars event. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Battleworld. Battleworld is last remaining bit of reality in the Marvel multiverse - a patchwork planet made up of the remains of decimated universes. And the titles which carry the Battleworld moniker will feature wars between the various sectors. “If you want the full story of what’s happening across the surface of this new planet, Battleworld branded titles are for you,” said Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso in a press release. “Who polices Battleworld? How do the various domains interact? What happens when those domains go to war? What strange, never-before-seen creatures inhabit this world? What familiar faces will make appearances? Fans who want to fully understand how each sector interacts with the others can’t miss out on these books!” According to Marvel, titles carrying the Battleworld banner will focus on the "interworking and interaction of all the domains now fused together throughout the one and only remaining planet! The Secret Wars are waged as the last remaining fragments of dead universes fight for survival. Who rules these domains? Who comes out on top? Who lives? Who dies?" Battleworld joins the previously announced Last Days as groupings of titles under the larger Secret Wars banner. There is a third umbrella banner yet to be announced (but presumably Friday), as well as the specific titles that'll be a part of each grouping. “The inner machinations of Secret Wars happen here,” added Marvel SVP Sales & Marketing David Gabriel in the press release. “Battleworld branded titles will be clearly marked through the Marvel Previews solicits as well as with well distinguished cover trade dress, this way both retailers and fans will know what they’re getting. Think of these as the new core monthly titles." Look for more relating to Battleworld, Last Days, and of course Secret Wars, in the coming days. Last edited by Gold Ranger; 01-23-2015 at 08:58 PM. |

![]() ![]() Where there's a war, there's a warzone - and the third umbrella grouping for tie-ins to Marvel's upcoming Secret Wars event series is revealed. Warzones! (exclamation point Marvel's) joins the previously announced Last Days and Battleworld as "different categories of titles" taking place during the release of Secret Wars beginning in May. “If you want a glimpse of what the future holds, you’ll find it in the Warzones! titles,” explained Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso in a press release. “Our creators let their imaginations run wild as they lay down the foundations for the future. Whether we’re revisiting the most popular events from Marvel’s past or telling completely new stories, you won’t believe what we’ve got in store for you.” Warzones! branded titles will be distinct from others in that they'll focus on stories set inside one of the patchworld sectors of Battleworld, instead of crossing over with other sectors. “To be clear, Warzones! titles are not fill-ins. These are the event caliber books, magnified to the Nth degree,” added Marvel SVP Sales & Marketing David Gabriel. “Secret Wars has afforded us a completely unique opportunity to tell huge, epic, event-sized stories within the framework of this new, patchwork planet – events within events. These titles will lay the building blocks and groundwork for what’s next, if that gives any indication of how important they are!” Last edited by Gold Ranger; 01-23-2015 at 09:00 PM. |

I don't see this as a bad move at all, Marvel has a long and convoluted history of characters and stories; this is a great way to honour those stories but hit the reboot button. Despite what some believe, Marvel has never done anything on this scale before. Yes, they've introduced other universes to tell alternative style stories, but to do away with all of them and reign it in to just one is a big deal.
I'm looking forward to it. My only concern/criticism is that there is no way I'll be buying all of these titles so I won't be seeing the whole story by any means. Ah well. |

I stopped for a while and got really into Spider-Man in the early 90's. I came in as the Clone Saga was starting and loved it. I wanted to know more and more about who the characters were and what their motivations were. The "50+ year baggage" was a selling point to me! Comics nowadays can barely keep anything straight because of all the retcons and reboots. It's such a turn-off for long time readers. Kids and people for some reason have little to no attention span, it is sickening! |

Ive been waiting for something like this to happen. marvel has been suffering from an ever growing continuity cluster**** for years. the books used to at least follow some form time flow. but this year Original Sin, AXIS, Spiderverse were pretty much all happening on top of each other, with the death of wolverine throw in for measure, AND all the various one shots and tie in books happening for all those events. ON TOP of some of these books also having "normal" storylines happening too.
and were not even going to start on the X-men side of this ****edupidness. so anything they can try to do to streamline things would be great. as for the ultimate & 616 combo. they might use some of the ultimate marvel history in 616...but the real reason is just to pull Miles Morales out of another marvel universe they dug themselves into to deep of a hole with. (and lets be honest, the only reason the ultimate universe has continued at all is because of his spiderman book, that aside, it should have ended years ago.) so what can we expect secret war to fix? heres what I would like. wolverine? alive again hopefully. Spider-Man? married again hopefully. no deals with devils. miles morales spiderman brought over. hell they might just bring spider gwen into the main NMU (new marvel universe) now. X-men? keep the x-men of the past in the present, but stop trying to rehash old xmen storylines with them. (youve killed off anyones interest with the "phoenix" with A vs X). bring xavier back so every xmen book isnt complaining about xavier being dead. Captain America? give steve back his powers. Falcap isnt working. Guardians of the Galaxy? Stop over exposing and crossovering them. but the biggest thing, marvel has just been making the general superhero population out to be dicks lately. be it constant hero infighting, all the way to the heros are pretty much the reason the 616 is ending anyway. the marvel heros dont feel like heros anymore. that needs to change so that great stories can be written for them. What I hope happens most when the secret wars dust is settled, that the NMU will be a place for clearer storylines to happen again. but, it didnt really work for dc with the new 52. so lets hope marvel has better ideas for all their characters then they did. |

I've been going back and forth on if I should even read this or not. I used to read only Marvel books, but due to the even-fatigue over the past 3-4 years, I read only Amazing Spider-Man now. I've even considered dropping ASM, but I didn't hate Spider-Verse, so I've kept on with it.
It looks like there are way too many titles and one-shots in this event for me to really get into it. I've been reading a lot of older events on Marvel Unlimited (totally wort the $10 a month), and I think I might just wait until 6 months from now to start reading Secret Wars. I don't hate the idea of a reboot but I really don't enjoy the massive amount of tie-ins that regularly occur with Marvel events as of late. The huge problem I've had with Marvel is that it is event after event and there isn't really much time in between for the characters to just exist in their own titles. Granted DC still has the events, I've been able to pretty much read the single character titles and have no issue. With Secret Wars, it might be easier to just skip it and start buying a few Marvel books after it is over. Just my two cents. |

I caved and ended up reserving a decent amount of the tie-ins for Secret Wars. I went back and forth on this for a few months, but finally decided that I want to at least stay current on the what is happening to the whole MCU so I'm not lost when the new series start (if I decide to read any of them). I will be getting:
-Deadpool's Secret Wars -Inferno -Old Man Logan -Spider-Verse -Ultimate End -Secret Wars -Secret Wars: Battleworld -Secret Wars: Journal -Infinity Gauntlet -The Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows -X-Men '92 -Marvel Zombies -Age of Ultron vs. Marvel Zombies Anyone else decide to take the plunge on this event? The main Secret Wars series is what you should read then, characters from the MU appear in issue 2 onward, well, technically from issue 1...
This is good stuff, you should give it a look and it's early days yet so we don't know for sure what's happened to the rest of the MU characters. The spin off titles are essentially What If titles, but it looks like some of characters in them could end up forming the new MU. We'll see. |
