Lethal Weapon 2. Though Die Hard 2 is a good sequel, it does get quite ridiculous at times (and it's basically the first film on a plane). Lethal Weapon 2 at least raises the stakes like a good sequel should do.
Besides, the best Die Hard sequel is still Die Hard with a Vengeance. |

I don't even count it as a Die Hard movie (there are only two), and prefer even Live Free or Die Hard over that. As for the question - I don't know. Both are great sequels, can't say which one is better. |

Lethal Weapon 2 by a mile. It's also my favorite movie of all time & it has my first movie crush (Traci Wolfe)
It's the first rated R movie I saw in the theaters with my pops. I wanted to see Batman & was upset when I realized we were watching something else & walked out wanting to watch it again. LW2 is the perfect blend of comedy, action, romance & drama. The opening with the Looney Toons theme grabbed me. Then boom, right to the action/comedy. Rog making the siren sound, Riggs asking for the bad guy's license & insurance & them arguing who would drive during the car chase. Rog screaming "You're not gonna make it, there's not enough room!" & Riggs admitting there wasn't enough room after the fact. The first 45 - 60 minutes is comic gold & is funnier than the comedies nowadays. From the the car chase scene til the end when I thought Riggs was gonna die (I was crying like a baby) it's an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end. Not to mention the quotes I still use (to my wife, mother in law) They f**k you at the drive through (to anybody that's around when my wife snaps) You're lucky, I have to live with that. (at work) I'm surprised you haven't heard of me, I got a bad reputation, sometimes I just go nuts like now HAHA (to mostly everybody) ok, ok, ok, ok (when my wife was studying for her Masters & PHD in psychiatry [I think]) Well if it isn't Mrs. Sigmund Fraud (I use to say when my kids were mad at me) Big smile, big smile, big smile (the one I want to use) (Daughter's boyfriend's name) I got a gun Also, the theater experience was amazing. There were only a handful of people there. I never heard my pops laugh so hard other than when watching Eddie Murphy. I remember the awkwardness I felt hearing Leo say f**k so many times, not knowing if I should look away when Rita got naked (I didn't) My pops rubbing my head when I started crying at the end. Seeing him cover his mouth to stop from spitting out popcorn or soda after the toilet hit the car. When we were leaving he told me Donner also directed Goonies & Superman 1 & 2 & I thought he was the best director ever. I even have a good number of movies in my collection. LW2 is also one of the biggest reasons why Gibson is my favorite actor ever. Yes even after he went looney toons, I've rooted for him to make a comeback with acting, directing or both. I can't wait til I can watch this with my son. It's so good, I can even watch the TV edit & enjoy it. |

I like Die Hard 2 (though agree with Buscemi that DHWAV is the best DH sequel) but Lethal Weapon 2 is better as a sequel in that in builds on elements of the first to further develop the characters, especially Riggs, and gets a little darker and more serious, without losing that Lethal Weapon charm.

Lethal Weapon 2 by a mile, it's looser and more fun than its predecessor.
Die Hard 2 was my least favorite Die Hard movie until A Good Day To Die Hard came out and easily surpassed it as the weakest entry.Die Hard With A Vengeance is good fun and Live Free Or Die Hard is underrated. Still, there's only one classic here and that's Die Hard. |

I agree. Lethal Weapon 2 is the better of the two. Never get tired of watching that. Whereas Die Hard 2 has worn a bit thin on me over the years. LW2 opens up right out of the gate - action, humor right in your face. DH2, while still good, just feels tired and mundane on repeat viewings. I saw both in the theater, but LW2 has had more of a lasting impact and is still one of the best sequels of all time.
Still remember the theater playing a music video during the previews when I saw LW2 that summer - Grayson Hugh's cover of that ONJ song - "Cant we talk it over". I remember thinking then - 'who? never heard of this guy' - but as it played I remembered the song from ONJ. |
