If for instance you rate a movie a 6/10 after watching it which is a passable score, would you still purchase it? Or does it have to be something you really like a lot in order to want to get it?

I buy what interests me, even if I gave it a somewhat low rating.
Strangely enough, the movies I want to revisit the most are the ones I don't immediately fall in love with. |

I don't rate movies on a scale of 10 or anything else like that.
I buy movies that I enjoyed for whatever reason that I feel I'd want to watch again at my convenience. I've seen many classic films that I think are good, but have no interest in ever owning because I probably won't want to actually re-watch them again (one and done) or am fine just catching by chance on TCM or something. I also blind buy movies but I'm usually good at going with my gut if it's something I'd like or not. |

I blind buy most of the movies I watch, so ratings—mine or anyone else's—rarely factor into the buying decision. I usually buy movies on the basis of their stories, thematic content, or actors/directors/etc.

Usually a 4/5 and higher means I purchase the movie. Sometimes I’ll buy 3/5 star movies just because I like the packaging or I want to reevaluate the movie.

I give letter grades. I would buy a B if it was something I wanted to own (some Disney, Marvel, or Pixar movies), but generally I'm looking to buy B+ and higher. I would be unlikely to buy a B-. If I blind buy something, it is usually cheap, so I feel like instead of paying for a movie ticket, I am buying the disk, so I still have some B-, C's, and worse in my collection.

Whose rating are you referring too?
I blind buy quite a few movies, so obviously I don't have a personal rating for those. I do try and stay away from movies that are widely panned, or that some people consider "so bad it's good" - because i usually just consider them bad. |

Yeah, and see, objectively, Can't Stop the Music is a shitty film. If I were to assign some arbitrary rating to it, it would be pretty low. But it's still one of my most anticipated releases because it's a hell of a lot of fun to watch.

Either i like a movie, or I don't, and if i don't then I wouldn't want to own it. If i do like it, then sure I'd buy it if the price is right. A movie like Jurassic Park you can pretty much count on being in the bargain bin anyway since they print about a zillion copies of them. |

I love buying stuff just to give it another chance. And a lot of times it pays off too. |
