It's no secret that there's been a lot of HDDVD vs Blu-Ray going on. I'm normally posting in video game forums so the PS3 and Xbox 360 camps have been going back and forth with the reliability and durability of the discs. To be honest, I've not heard any real world reports on how delicate or durable Blu-Ray discs are. I know this isn't the best place to ask because there aren't going to be any neophytes who leave their discs laying on top of empty pop cans or cleaning the disc on their jeans posting in here. I'm curious to know how Blu-Ray owners feel about the quality and durability of their discs.
Just out of my own curiosity, I've considered purchasing a movie and trying to mildly scuff it to see what it takes to get it to skip in a demo player at the store. Has anyone else attempted this to figure out what the threshold is? |

I've "cleaned some discs on my jeans" at this point, and honestly they seem a lot 'harder' and much easier to clean (they're a lot more "slippery" than DVD) than DVD was.
I'm not too concerned about it. Cleaned a BD movie with a dry paper towel too and it didnt scratch, and was fine. |

Awesome! It's definitely a plus that they seem better than standard DVDs. I know you guys have talked about it a lot here, but I was bummed when they dropped the caddy (assuming the caddy wasn't virtually pointless like the UMD).
Are your discs with the Durabis coating or without? |

The TDK -R's I have are Durabis2, the Sony R's and RE's I have are "AccuCore 2", the studio discs I have dont say what coating they are, but from what I understand they are "zircon".
Either way, they scratch a lot less easily than DVD of any sort, and clean a lot easier, too. Seriously, a dry paper towel will take anything right off (the discs really do feel 'slippery' as if they're teflon coated) and will not scratch the disc. |
