Not sure if this is the proper forum for this mods, move if need be, but really, i am VERY upset. Tell me what you guys think.
I have a 60 gig PS3, its been perfect up till now, i paid cash for it at retail. Now, out of nowhere, when i insert discs, its like something is blocking the way. I turn my ps3 on with the eject button on the bluetooth remote, so i know there is no disc inside. I can eventually get a disc in, but it makes all types of weird noises and doesnt read properly obviously. I called sony, and i gave them all my info, they asked for serial #s, model #s, and asked if any of the stickers had been removed, etc etc. I said nope, and he said it was still under warranty. I said, cool. He then asked if i had a receipt, i said no, i dont keep receipts for most stuff i buy after a certain time frame. He said "thats fine, it will cost you 150 to get your PS3 repaired and you will have to pay for shipping". I about flipped out. NO ITEM IVE EVER WARRANTIED HAS EVER NEEDED A RECEIPT. My damn 360 went out and they just wanted the serial # to see if it was still under warranty, which it was, and they fixed it. Multiple hard drives from Seagate, Western Digital and countless other products have ***NEVER*** needed a receipt. I asked to speak to a supervisor, the guy must have been the most unfriendly person ive ever talked to on the phone. I asked where on the box does it say i need a receipt to receive my warranty? He said its in the manual. I said the manual is inside the box, when i picked up the box and saw it had a 1 year warranty, it didnt say anything about a receipt. He said its on sonys website. I said thats not on the box, and the box doesnt say ANYTHING about a receipt. He said that is sonys policy. I asked why it is not on the box then, he said they dont put it there. Eventually i got so pissed (but never went nuts or cussed or anything), that i asked for his name, Mike, and he refused to give me his last name. I told him ive owned the PS1, PS2, and i own a PSP and a PS3, 50+ blu-ray movies, 10 PS3 games, 10 PS2 games, and this is how a LOYAL longtime sony customer is treated? He said "this is the policy, its in the manual, you need to pay 150 to fix it, i cannot change it." At that point i just hung up. Im still enraged. This is the biggest load of crap ive ever witnessed. No wonder people hate sony. Ive NEVER had an issue with anything ive ever owned from them including TVs, receivers and other products. But this treatment is unacceptable. If i cannot get this fixed under warranty, i am going to sell all my blu-ray movies, all my ps3/ps2 games and get a HD-DVD addon for the 360 since at least microsoft supports their junk hardware. Seriously, UN-ACCEPTABLE. What do you guys thing i should do now? I pm'd paidgeek in hopes of something, but seriously, i will drop BD instantly if they intend on bending me over on this issue. |

I agree...take it easy over the weekend and Monday give Sony a call back and just pretend that its the first time that you are calling about the problem and see what kind of results you will get then.

WOW , Are you serious ? that your willing to flip out and sell off your stuff for a inferior product because its your own fault for not keeping your receipt ? Everyone knows to keep a receipt for a purchase that is still under warranty . How do they know you bought that piece of equipment or stole it for that matter . Look at it this way when you point the finger at them their are 4 more pointing at you . Don't go off blaming them when it's your fault for not protecting your investment .

Ive never needed a receipt for ANY other warranty service for ANY other product during my ENTIRE LIFETIME. This is NOT how a warranty is taken care of at ANY other console company (Microsoft/Nintendo need NO RECEIPT). |

I would be pissed as well. I would try to calm down some, and try to get another rep that is cool, and explain your situation. I deal with hardware returns and RMAs all the time, and rarely do people ask for receipts, usually all they need is the serial#, so maybe this rep was misguided.
But please don't drop everything and buy into the OTHER format. |

What does that got anything to do with Blu-ray movies? Quote:
As for your issue, I don't know much about this whole receipt deal, it does kinda boggles the mind, and makes the whole warranty thing useless. But yea, try call and talk to them again. See what they say this time. But if it's true that you still need the receipt, and that you have to pay for shipping, etc. Then there's nothing more for me to say. I have my 60 gig version for over a full year now, still works fine. With disc insert and eject, no problem here. |

Well my point is that is their policy and it's your fault for not having a receipt . Lucky for you i don't work for sony because i think i would tell you if that is your stand point maybe you might be better off with one of those other companys you mentioned .

No worries, you should be pissed. The PS3 is an expensive piece of machinery and you happened to be one of the very few unfortunate people to get a lemon. If you don't succeed with Sony and are at a complete loss, just get it perfectly packaged for the season holiday gift return blitz. Walmart or Costco probably won't have the time to test out the item fully (store credit). |

Good way to lose a great customer permanently, I've been in situations like that before, and had good reasons, I think a rep telling someone that would just be saying, "We don't care".

Microsoft told me I had to pay $165 plus shipping to fix my 360 before they accepted responsibility for the RROD, so me and my buddy smashed it to have some fun... and then a month later they did the big RROD announcement, I felt like such a dumbass.

If you bought this machine with a credit card then you can simply recall an older credit card statement as proof of purchase.
Checking account? Same thing basically. |

I spoke to a Supervisor. The PS3 IS under warranty. It is a 60 gig and i dont want the 80 gig or id have swapped it already. Im much more calm now, and i think i will just take the thing apart and fix it myself. If anyone thinks this is OK treatment, then you are on crack. My love for sony went down a lot. I mean crap, i just bought POTC3 Blu-Ray this morning at circuit city. This is not how loyal consumers who've spent thousands upon thousands, in addition to refering everyone they know to Sony products, should be treated. Outragous. But i need my 60 gig alive for the PS2 games i play on it. Worse comes to Worse, i'll swap it with a 80, but i dont want to.
