Default Adding a Region B player

I'm quite frustrated with having to reject region B discs as my player is region A only

I'm using a Sony home-theatre-in-a-box currently. So i'm thinking why not just stack a region B standalone player and connect it via HDMI to the Sony?

- will I still get 5.1 surround sound ?
- will there be compatibility problems between the B player and the Sony and the TV?

It might be easier to upgrade to a full region Free player.

I don't have an amplifier so I'll end up stacking the region-free player and connecting via HDMI.... both questions still apply

0The answer to your "compatibility issue" is based on "which one, of the dozens* made over the last few years", Craptastic do you have.

*Sony made their first BD Craptastic in 2007. They've had at least 5 Craptastic and as many as 9 in any given year. So there are somewhere between 50 and 80 models of Sony Craptastic.

(by the way, I call HTiB "Craptastic" everywhere...)

Sidenote...

Even if yours has HDMI inputs, it likely does not recognize anything but PCM(2.0 at least. 7.1 if you are lucky). If you are lucky enough to own one of the, very few(like maybe...2 or 3 of them) that accepts 7.1 PCM over HDMI...you are looking at pairing a multi-region BD player to it that costs $400+. (as most under $150, pre-mod cost, BD players no longer provide 5.1/7.1 PCM)
