Default Female villains in Marvel and DC films

DC:
- Batman The Movie: Catwoman
- Superman 2: Ursa
- Supergirl: Selena
- Superman 3: Vera Webster
- Batman Returns: Catwoman
- Batman & Robin: Poison Ivy
- Catwoman: Laurel Hedare
- Constantine: Gabriel
- Dark Knight Rises: Talia Al Ghul, Catwoman
- Man of Steel: Faora
- Suicide Squad: Harley Quinn, Enchantress

MARVEL:
- Blade: Mercury
- X-men(s): Mystique
- X2: Lady Deathstrike
- Blade Trinity: Danica Talos
- Elektra: Typhoid Mary
- X-Men Last Stand: Dark Phoenix, Callisto, Arclight
- X-Men Origins Wolverine: Silver Fox
- X-Men First Class: Emma Frost, Angel
- The Wolverine: Viper
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Nebula

What do you think about them? Which company do you think has done female villains better?

I think both companies have been pretty fair with developing female villains. Maybe Marvel has an edge with the developed characters of Mystique and Dark Phoenix (not a good villain in Last Stand but a good build up to it in the first two X-Men films). The X-men movies have definitely done the best with having female characters in the forefront but that's another topic.

My favorite villains showcasing bad-assness has to be DC's Ursa, Catwoman (Phieffer), and Faora....and Marvel's Mystique (both versions) and Lady Deathstrike.

I have a feeling that DC's Harley Quinn will be the best female supervillain on film when Suicide Squad comes out.

...and ironically, Emma Frost has been done better and more developed in any of the Saturday morning cartoons (especially Wolverine and the X-Men).

Not to mention, Faora could pretty much break all of the Marvel female villains in half, effortlessly. Well maybe not Emma, Frost could probably mount a decent mental attack but it's hard to hurt Kryptonians that way, too.

I agree...I think Faora has been the most powerful of all the female villains. Regarding superpowers, would she beat Dark Phoenix though?

Dark Phoenix can alter reality at the cellular level, I don't think any of the Kryptonians would be able to beat her physically. Would take something like trapping her in the Phantom Zone. Not sure that would work though, Phoenix(I think) can shift between dimensions. Phoenix is one of those characters you can't use a lot because her power is almost unstoppable.

Sigourney would have been like 58 years old or something.

This does not compute.

I agree with you todd. Catwoman and Mystique represent the best of both companies. Both characters were well acted, highly skilled, intelligent and dangerous. I'd like to see a good Harley Quinn in the next Batman film.

In 2006, when X-Men Last Stand came out instead of Singer's X-Men 3, Sigourney Weaver was in Infamous.

Im okay with Sigourney Weaver in any role regardless of age - she did get hotted up in Alien Resurrection. I'll definitely support seeing old supervillains (come on, Helen Mirren for Granny Goodness!)

Selina Kyle has always been portrayed well but I am one of those who think Rebecca Romijn brought little to Raven Darkholme. Probably why her Mystique was given little to say or do outside of the fight scenes.

For sure. Romijn just brought 2-dimensional bad-assness. It was only until Lawrence came and she became developed. And overall, all Mystiques have had the coolest choreographed fight scenes from all these superhero flicks.

Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman is my favorite by a long shot but my 2nd fave is a dark horse selection: Lady Deathstrike. She had an awesome fight scene with Wolverine but unfortunately wasn't given anything else to do. However, Kelly Hu is super hot.

Probably my favorite reveal in the original X-Men trilogy.

Now I'm going to get accused of being "ageist" again, like when I was calling the idea of having Arnold in Genisys absurd. But sorry. I couldn't take Weaver seriously as Emma. It would be ridiculous casting in the extreme.

And honestly, what would be the point? I can think of dozens of good actresses off of the top of my head who are younger, hotter, and would make a better Emma.

She was great in Avatar so I could totally see her as Emma Frost. January Jones was hot enough for the role but her performance came off a bit wooden.

Pfeiffer will always be the best for the mere fact that Burton took a gigantic crap on who Selina Kyle/Catwoman is and Pfeiffer is still considered the best to ever take the role. Damn she was good.

Still waiting to see who Affleck and Snyder put in the role, hopefully someone who will seem they stepped right out of the comics even more so than Anne.
