Universal Studios Uncle Buck (1989)

It's only 2.0 lossy DTS! Insult to injury it's @384kbps, which is half the 768 rate that filters the high frequencies above 15kHz, one reason the studios almost always use DD for lossy stereo!

Paramount gave Ferris Bueller, which has a similar sound design, a 5.1 TrueHD remix. I would understand if they didn't remix it 5.1 but at least lossless! Warner does DTS-MA 1.0 and 2.0!

The transfer itself looks pretty old, but at least it isn't DNR'ed. It's also on a BD-50, the feature is in AVC, 24GB.

A poor effort which is an insult to the late John Hughes.

Slapping on a PCM stereo track would have cost nothing.

Lionsgate does better with less resources for their budget titles.

I'm sure glad that I passed on this release of UNcle Buck ... I ended up picking up True Grit (1969) and Flipper instead.

I was going to start a thread about this movie as I have been thinking about getting this on Blu-ray. I don't have this on Dvd or Blu-ray. I might have it on VHS but I don't think I do.

Anyways what are the bonus stuff on this new Blu-ray. Also I thought there was a Dvd that came with this Blu-ray? But when I looked again I did not notice any Dvd. Does this Blu-ray come with a standard Dvd?

No it does not come with a DVD. I'm not even sure if it has any extras, with that being said, it's the best this movie has ever looked and for $9.99 you should pick it up since you don't own it on another format.

yeah I'm not in favor of "budget" releases like this if they aren't going to at least put a little effort into it.
I would hate to have a movie I really cared about treated so shabbily.
a real shame.

Well, I have no problem buying a vlaue priced Blu-ray as long as the picture quality is halfway decent on a 32" HDTV. But, judging from the reviews I have read about, and not just on Blu-ray.com, that everyone is slamming the audio quality like a bad rock.

I found it surprisign when I looked at the back of the case and seen DTS 2.0(I was like ). I've wwatched the movie now and that is disappointing, the SQ was alright i guess for being only 2.0, but still there is no excuse whether this is an old comedy or a new big budget blockbuster at the very least I would have expected DTS 5.1 over 2.0 but whatyougonnado?

Inexcusable when HDNet Movies just showed it in January with a 5.1 track and the same audio bit-rate. They definitely have the source material ready for a high rate 5.1 track.

I'm really disappointed. There's no such excuse, budget title indeed. If you release a title, do it properly. There are certain things expected when a blu-ray is released.

That indicates Universal just did not care about dumping it on Blu-ray without any oversight. People do not seem to understand that including a stereo PCM soundtrack would have cost nothing extra at all. Now to hear a 5.1 mix already exists is shocking and shows the indifference that Universal treats their Blu-rays.

In most cases, if the resources are available, Lionsgate will put together a DTS-HD MA 7.1 (!) track for their budget titles. In other cases, they might even put together new bonus material.

For shame Universal. For shame.

I enjoyed "Uncle Buck," but it's not one of my favorite movies...I was contemplating picking this up since it's relatively cheap, but based on what I've read so far about the quality (which is typical of Universal), I'd rather save the $10 and apply it towards another title.
