A Hard Day's Night Blu-ray

Wonder if this is worth picking up?
I havent seen it in some time but remember quite liking the movie when i saw a TV showing. The music is great of course.

Extras seem to be mostly the same as the Criterion, surprised Eureka/MoC didnt get this though.

It's a matter of taste, the comedy in it hasn't aged well but, like you said, the music is great and should sound fantastic if it's being remastered from original tapes.

BUT...

That cover is HIDEOUS!! It's put me off buying it at that price. I might stick with my Canadian release until the price drops significantly.

I've pre-ordered, think it will be exactly the same as the criterion, just having a different distributor for UK.

It's actually missing The Running Jumping & Standing Still Film (1960), Lester’s Oscar-nominated short, but otherwise yeah, it seems everything else has been able to be licenced.

I'm now even thinking Criterion didn't have anything to do with theses extras, but merely licenced them in the US, while SS licenced them in the UK.

Hope it looks better than Help!

Help! looked ****ing atrocious.

EDIT: Oh it looks like Criterion are doing the transfer for the worldwide release. That's very promising.

I believe the Help! rerelease used the 2007 restoration, which is a shame. Yellow Submarine was restored in 4K and looks great, Magical Mystery Tour looks as good as it's going to get, considering the source. At least the audio on all releases is excellent.

A Hard Day's Night is their best film, I'm sure it'll look great. Except for the cover.

Bring on a Let It Be restoration, now that has potential!

Yellow has a ton of DNR, 4k does not make a decent transfer alone.

bluraydefinition has a review, it seems to be on par with Criterion in quality, same video, and audio specs. Slightly different on extras, Criterion wins in that case.

I did like it, and the transfer looks fabulous. I recall seeing The Beatles: The first US Visit by the Maysles Brothers and that one felt more electrifying to me, like it was really happening. The mockumentary format adds very little, if anything, for me.

Oh and the songs sound absolutely tremendous. I chose the 5.1 option.
