Default Toy Story 3D - Film and View-Master

The original Toy Story may have been released in 3D in 2009, but back in 1995 it was issued as three View-Master reels (with stereoscopic renderings from the original computer models).

By way of comparison, I have scanned the original View-Master images and put them side-by-side with frame captures from the 3D theatrical release (all but one of the View-Master shots are direct frames from the film).

What is interesting to me is how much stronger the stereo was in the View-Master version. In the film release, the sense of depth has been dialled way down (and in a few shots is almost non-existent).

The full gallery can be seen here:

Toy Story image comparisons

(With a variety of 3D viewing options)

The View-Master scans are taken from my own 20-year-old reels; the frame captures are from the UK Sky3D broadcast version (which was shown in half side-by-side format).

Thank you so much for posting those old View-master images. I had no idea they existed. Toy Story looks so much better with a wider depth budget like that.

Watched Finding Nemo onBlu-ray that was re-released in 3D, i was surprised how flat it was, you'd think that PIXAR would take the opportunely to make a real spectacle of it

i splureged and doubled dipped into Finding Nemo and was hugely disapointed with the 3D just like with any other pixar 3d. They should be ashamed to put out this garbage when an relatively unknown studio is able to make 3D masterpieces like Sammy's Adventures.

Wow, I completely disagree. Finding Nemo is one of my favorite 3D discs, and I've shown it to many former 3D-haters and converted them into 3D fans. In my opinion, Finding Nemo 3D has an absolutely incredible sense of depth and dimensionality. Pop-out effects are perfectly used with fish seeming to swim right out of the screen. I'm not sure what kinds of displays you guys are watching 3D Blu-rays on, but on my 1080p OLED, Finding Nemo is stunning.
