More than three years without a post!

The Frighteners: 15th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray, available on Sep 13, 2011, and up for preorder on Amazon.

News: https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=6577

Listing: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-F...Blu-ray/16134/

I always thought this was a pretty fun movie, and haven't seen it in years. I'll be picking this up, if it gets a good A/V transfer.

The cover art is worth noting since it differs from the demonic face seen in the theatrical poster and DVD/HDDVD releases. Jackson has stated that the image did not accurately portray the film's content and attributes the marketing campaign as one of the reasons why the film was not a box office success.
Damn that's one ugly cover. What the **** is Jackson talking about I'd much prefer the original cover over this abomination any day.

When's Universal going to learn to not try and fix what's not broken. Lately they've released their "new and improved" covers only in the US but left the original covers for the other international releases alone.

At least the UK is getting the original cover.

Come on $25.00, that's a terrible price, $19.99 would be more acceptable though that still would be a little high..

I'm pretty sure that it will come way down. I can't see BB and Walmart charging that much either.

Glad to see the theatrical version is included, always prefered it. I'll probably give the directors cut another chance though, haven't watched it in a long time

I used to have the theatrical on DVD a long time ago. I've never seen the directors cut. It's nice that it will have both.

Very true with this sentiment. I have the Director's "Fun" Cut on DVD with the slipcover and it's far better compared to this dreck. Might import but might not. More due to the UK not using generic disc label art.

I bet it'll be using seamless branching due to additional scenes and not different tones i.e. LEGEND cuts.

Based on the USA Director's Cut DVD coverart hopefully but Blu?

I honestly wasn't expecting this title to be announced until 2012 in time for THE HOBBIT. Here's to hoping it'll keep the film grain and not a DNR mess. Also to include ALL the extras from the Signature Collection LD which is on the double sided Director's Cut DVD.
Doesn't matter I'll be placing the Blu-ray disc in a 3-Disc DVD case along with the DVD of the Director's Cut and the HD DVD. I really love this film. DAY 1 PURCHASE! Oh and the Danny Elfman score is great too!

EDIT: Glad I held off on buying the Theatrical Cut on DVD! No not the lame photoshopped cover but film poster art one. September 13th can't get here fast enough. Wonder what they'll add for the 15th Anniversary release along with the LD extras?

Seriously...between this and Brazil, just how many lobotomized monkeys does Universal now have in charge of their cover-art department?

But yeah...will be picking this one up regardless, but only the Director's Cut will be getting spun on a regular basis. Much like the extended editions of Highlander, The Abyss, and Aliens (and Brazil!), it renders the original theatrical cut virtually useless.

This is a funny looking cover sort of reminds of Disney's The Haunted Mantion

The Monkeys stayed home for Brazil, that's actually the original poster art.

At least in Brazil's case, there's very likely a Criterion version coming down the road, so we'll almost certainly get a better BD cover (using the film's actual logo, preferably).

In this case, it looks like it's gonna be custom-jobs all the way, unfortunately. Not that I'm knocking the actual content on the disc(s), mind you.

EDIT:

Interesting...I didn't know that. Guess I just assumed there was something going around at Universal.

Those title treatments on Brazil and Frighteners are temporary and are there for the press releases so that they catch the eye better, at least that's what they're attempting. The titles will look better on the actual cover.

LMAO where did you get that quote about Jackson blaming the poster on the films lack of success?

The cover for this Blu is awful lol.

I never owned the DVD version of this so this will be the perfect time to pick it up. Wished they kept the ghost/demon's face popping out like the DVD version... cover is just plain horrendous. Did this ever make it to HD-DVD? Think it did... if so, anybody know's the PQ/AQ on HD-DVD? My guess Universal will probably use the same transfer :-(
