Last I heard, Windows 8 bombed. Windows 10 is out now and seems to be doing well, without much reliance on touch screen.
Anyway, touchscreen is technology best used on mobile devices, and doesn't strike me as being practical for a desktop. I'd rather not reach across my desk five feet to touch stuff, when the keyboard and mouse are right here in front of me. It might be cool if they could make a touchable device to replace a keyboard/mouse, but I don't think any kind of thing exists yet (unless you count that pad you can use to sketch stuff on a computer, I dunno). I don't even know if most consumers really need or care for touchscreen monitors. ![]() |

because the market pretty much killed it off. No one wanted it and Win 10 pretty much got rid of 99% of the touch screen features once MS realized it. unless you're on a laptop most people sit 3+ feet back from the monitor and it's out of arms reach. not natural to most people, and it died out.

No one likes fingerprints and smudges on their screens. Have you seen some of the smartphone screens in use today? It is like chicken grease has been smeared all over the screen and the people just don't care. Disgusting!

Toilet seats are ten times cleaner than mobile touchscreens which have 25,000 bacteria per square inch on average. Corning has an ionic silver Gorilla glass that kills 99% of bacteria.
Apart from unhygenic smears all over your large monitor, the screen is at the wrong angle for comfortable use. Some people may prefer lifeless, silent keys but most premium keyboards have tactile feedback which is why Cherry is doing so well. |

Remember those monitors built into a desk's surface they tried to push a few years ago? They look cool enough, but they'd kill your posture and eventually your back. They'd be a chiropractor's dream! We'd all be hunched over.
Touchscreen monitors are fine for business and presentations and devices that have people standing up, but sitting at my desk I can't even reach my monitor! |

I don't think so, mate. They're only of use of when selecting icons, dragging and dropping or swiping, anything that needs precision needs a mouse or some kind of stylus.

Logitech Touchpad [Show spoiler] Logitech K400 [Show spoiler] I'm just going to reiterate what other have said, desktop PCs are not the place for touchscreen. Heck, even my Lenovo laptop has a touchscreen and I may have used it once in over a year just to test to see if it worked ![]() Kiosks make sense, as do Tablets and other handheld devices. |

I agree. You have no idea what a pain it is to highlight sentences on a IPhone using touchscreen. Such a pain in the rear end. But truthfully, we're in the minority. Everyone today likes touch screen not because it's better, but because it's the cool new thang!

Not for me. I hate them. I only have a few touchscreen devices because there is no other alternative.

Clearly referring to the usage in monitors as is the subject of the topic, but your statement is still false. In what world have mice ever been used for phones or tablets? Literally never. The place where mice are actually used, on computers, has literally not been affected at all by touchscreens. Ignoring the actual percentage of people who even own a touchscreen monitor, I guarantee 100% of them own a mouse, and still use it more than a touchscreen.

2) fingers are dirty and they dirty up the screen 3) not all monitors are at arms length 4) on a smartphone/tablet, the screen is the only input, but if your hands are on a keyboard & mouse (or track pad) already it takes more effort to move them and go on the screen for that one command that might be slightly better then keyboard + mouse 5) On a laptop pushing on the screen is not that great of an idea . |
