Default 24-Bit PCM on Potter???

Sorry to start another Potter thread, but I was just looking at the bitrate on the Potter films and each PCM track is at 4.6mbps. Doesn't that mean it's a 16-Bit track? I was reading the review on here and on HighDefDigest, and both places say 24-Bit.

Exactly, so why are these reviewers saying 24-Bit?

I've checked Potters 3, 4 and 5 and they're all 4.6mbps.

5 is 24-bit. 1,2,3 & 4 are 16-bit.

Can anyone provide a screenshot of the bitrate meter for 5 to clear this up?

Specs from a review site can always be mistaken. Perhaps they were taken from the same source as HighDefDigest. If it does indeed say 4.6Mbps on the bitrate meter as people here have reported, then it's 16-bit. End of story.

Yeah that's not proof, because they are indeed 16-Bit tracks...

As for them doing it to make more room for the picture quality, I highly doubt that since these were designed for HD DVD's anyway. So I am guessing the TrueHD track is also 16-Bit. Lets just hope the other fanboys don't get wind that the PCM track is 16 Bit and the TrueHD one is 24, otherwise they might think their's sounds better.

OK, Now I am confused. Dolby says True HD is bit for bit same as studio master. I know the studio master is NOT 16 bit. So, what's the deal? Is Dolby lying.

It is bit for bit identical to the master used for encoding. If the studio downsampled the audio track from 24 bits to 16 bits prior to the endcoding to save space, then that's what you get on the final product.

enjoy
