USA Larry Fessenden's "Beneath" from Scream Factory in 2014!

Directed by larry fessenden (wendigo, the last winter) the story concerns six teenagers on a rowboat attacked by a man-eating fish which forces them to decide who must be sacrificed as they fight their way back to shore.

Exact details on extras, key art and street date will be revealed in the next few months.

Just found out that, apparently, the giant monster fish is NOT CGI. My interest has been piqued, and if the price is right, I might be in.

So it's ... really a giant fish? Also I like the cover art on the right better than the one on the left.

Not even cheesy bad (which I personally don't mind). Lazy scriptwriting, bad acting and almost no tension/suspense.

Its better than ANY other Chiller movie.

and Chiller is like the mentally disabled cousin of Syfy.

So thats not saying much. I liked it though. And I dont like any other Chiller Films.

For those, like me, who were still on the fence on this one--the Shout website does say it has several cool extras--see the cut and paste from the Shout website below!

“3 out of 4 skulls - Beneath is the kind of movie where schlocky thrills are the bait, but it winds up giving you more to chew on.” – Michael Gingold, Fangoria

When a group of young friends commemorating their high school graduation take a trip to the remote Black Lake, their celebration turns into a nightmare. Trapped in a leaking boat with no oars, the teens face the ultimate test of friendship and sacrifice during a terror-stricken fight for survival when they find something is living beneath the surface.

Daniel Zovatto (Innocence), Bonnie Dennison (Stake Land, Third Watch), Chris Conroy (Sorority Row) and Mark Margolis (Breaking Bad) star in this highly suspenseful and bloody thriller.

Bonus features:

•Commentary with director Larry Fessenden and sound designer Graham Reznick
•Theatrical Trailer
•Behind BENEATH
•Outtakes
•Poster/Premiere
•Webisodes: What the Zeke? What's in Black Lake?
•Fessenden on JAWS

Everyone should just save themselves the money and just go watch the raft segment of Creepshow, this movie just completely rips that idea off anyway and fails at it miserably. That girl from 7th heaven really stunk up the screen in this one too, terrible "actress".

I rated it 5/10. I've seen way worse.. and way better. It's worth a watch but I don't know if it has much 'rewatchability'. Big fans of the killer fish, snake, etc. movies will probably enjoy it more.

I can't blame Fessenden for wanting to line his wallet with a few bills, but if this is the best he can come up with as a hired gun, he should stay hungry. This crap is as pulpy as it gets, yet he asks everyone to play it straight, which is disastrous; you laugh at it, not with it, because it actually takes itself seriously as some exploration into human nature via a practical fish that's as lethargic as it is budget-conscious.

It reminded me how truly great his previous work is (Wendigo, The Last Winter, Habit & No Telling), though, so it's not a total bust.

Thumbs up

You know, I'm glad I didn't read reviews before watching this tonight because I may not have bothered. To my surprise I highly enjoyed this. I didn't have super high expectations but if you like low-budget creature-features this is pretty well-done. Loved the ending! I'm fairly impressed. Not original but very fun.

8/10 (B+)
