Default The Directors Thread

A thread for mentioning Blu-ray releases by a particular filmmaker that are starting to build and to look good that you want to recommend. Half a dozen or so releases or fewer. No big numbers. We all know who the big hitters are. Hoping to discover some names to look up.

Matteo Garrone, all Region B except Pinocchio, all English-friendly

The Directors Thread [makes no sense]

or

The Director's Thread [OK if it's just one director but makes for a short thread]

or

The Directors' Thread
[the best one, multiple directors]

Your title hurts my head.

Let's help people learning English.

You'd have understood if it was about postmen. The Postmen Thread. A thread about postmen.

JFC..

Maybe you're the one who needs an English lesson? There's nothing confusing or nonsensical about the thread title. It's about directors (plural). It's not that hard to understand.

I normally try to not phone the grammar police but I've been watching the volcanic coverage from Iceland from a few YouTubers and their English is spot on and they even subtitle their possession use perfectly.

Anyway, good idea for a thread big fan of Gomorra (best Italian film in at least 30 years) and Dogmen is very good. Not seen those others.

Altitude releases Io Capitano to UK cinemas on 8th March, which means no chance of a disc.

Recommend a lesser known director could have been a good title

Garrone's Pinocchio is my favourite film of the last 20 years. For what it tries to be it does brilliantly. No, more than that, it does magically. Don't ever remember being so charmed by a film. All the characters are incredibly appealing and there's nothing kitsch about the film at all. That's probably why it means so much to me.

Hamaguchi Ryusuke is becoming one of my favourite directors, but coverage on blu ray in the UK is pretty spotty; Evil Does Not Exist, which I saw at this year's LFF, has been picked up by Modern Films here, which makes me fear that it will get a DVD release at best (since that is what happened to Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy).

Most Modern Films titles are only available as imports, and don’t get massive cinema releases either.

Me Captain (Io Capitano) from Matteo Garrone:

https://www.amazon.it/dp/B0CNPWY6F7/

His Dogman also has a 3 x 4Ks coming too:

https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0CKYM8JGJ/
https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0CKGR7145/
https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0CKH5PSC3/

None going to be English friendly I'd assume.

Dogman in this context is an English language film directed by Luc Besson that played Venice Film Festival.
