Default Axolotl Overkill (d. Helene Hegemann; Sundance premiere 1/20/2017)

This is a really interesting-sounding film from young German director Helene Hegemann. Here's the synopsis:

Quote:
[Show spoiler]Mifti is a beautiful and reckless 16-year-old girl. Her mother is dead, and her wealthy, eccentric father is too self-absorbed to be responsible for her. Mifti has no use for peers her own age, and being aware of the sexual power she wields with her looks and youth, she immerses herself in a world of adults of questionable character. Lovesick over an elusive older woman, she strikes up a friendship with Ophelia, an actress, and together they test the limits through Berlin nightlife and extreme partying.
And here's a cool clip:

This just looks and sounds extremely interesting.

The synopsis sounds cool but the short clip didn't do a lot for me. Perhaps a trailer would fully persuade me.

So, this isn't a monster movie involving salamanders? Pass.

I hate misleading movie titles.

Heh.

It's based on a novel the writer/director wrote. Actually, I sort of hate the young woman. I mean, she's not even 25 and she's already written a produced play, two screenplays which have been picked up, two novels, one of which was a best-seller in Germany, etc.

Give me a freakin' break!

Haven't read the whole book - "Axolotl Roadkill" - (couldn't force me to finish it), but it isn't very well received here in Germany. It was hyped as hell by the so called 'feuilleton', labeled as "fresh", but in fact its just a lot of swearing and wannabe taboo-breaking. Moreover the writer copied a lot passages word by word from another book without mentioning/indicating the source (plagiarism) and, in the aftermath, without really understanding that this is simply something you just don't do

Ahh, the plagiarism is saddening. But the film, from what I've read and the little I've seen, is still looking like something that will appeal to me.

I guess I'll have to wait and see.
