Default Hdmi audio delay

On my receiver, the sony strdn1060, when playing a blu ray, the sound will not kick in til the show has been going for a few seconds. This is incredibly annoying and causes me to miss sounds at the beginning or the first few seconds of the voice track in special features.

If you know how to fix this, PLEASE let me know.
Thanks for your time.

I don't think it's a sync issue or HDMI issue, I've always had the issues with receivers, it's just lag as the receiver catches up (I can't remember if it was something to do with copy-protection with DVDs). The only way around it is to back to the beginning and you should hear your missing audio.

That's what I have to do, just rewind it. But it's incredibly annoying. Yes, it is not an AV sync issue. The sound and picture lines up fine, there is just no sound for a few seconds at the start.

Any help on this greatly appreciated. Help bluray Wan kenobi, you're my only hope...

I have this problem also. Only when the reciever is decoding it. If the blu-ray player decodes it I never had a mute issue.

How do I tell the receiver not to decode it? or is it just a matter of telling the blu ray player to do it?

My bad.. I've never had this issue with Blu-ray players.. The only time that I have sync issues is when the GF watches E! News on Directv and it comes back from a commercial break. It's off for like 5 secs then it's fine. Really weird!

If your player is set to PCM then the player will decode. If the player is set to bitstream then your receiver will decode.

I have to set my player to PCM as my player can decode the HD sound formats but my receiver can't. You have to bear this in mind also.

If the player is set to pcm and the receiver is capable of decoding, is there a sound quality loss?

No there shouldn't be. The Player will output Linear PCM which is what Dolby TrueHD/DTS Master Audio essentially is.

Some people like the name of the sound formats to pop up on their amp which will only happen if the amp is decoding, but quality wise the audio will be the same.
