Default Star Trek TOS (with original effects) in HD on Amazon.co.uk but not Amazon.com

On Amazon.com, Star Trek: TOS is only available in SD, while Star Trek TOS Remastered is available in HD. It's the same on iTunes.

But on Amazon.co.uk, both TOS and TOS Remastered are listed as available in HD.

Does anyone know why the original version of Star Trek is not available in HD in its own country but is apparently available in the UK?

Has anyone noticed that the original effects in the HD versions have less detail and higher contrast than the SD effects in the DVDs? Was any effort put in at all into upgrading the original effects, or was it given a shoddy treatment in light of the CGI replacements?

As the "wow" factor (or not) for those awful CGI effects "re-masters" fades, hopefully more attention will be paid to presenting the Original Series as originally intended in HD (and perhaps cleaned up or enhanced better).

After all, the sheer dissonance in the re-mastered FX versions of having the bright, multi-colored live action no longer complemented by the same expressive statement via the 1960s effects - instead cold, gray, utilitarian realism, is really a travesty. Those green, blue, red etc planets were part of the magic and art; part of the "far out" aspect of Star Trek. They even took the colors out of the asteroid shots to make them bland too!
