Default DEADBEAT AT DAWN (Jim Van Bebber, 1988) -- from Arrow Video, 2018

From my Cinema Arcana FB Page:

According to director Jim Van Bebber, Arrow Video will be handling the 30th Anniversary Blu-Ray issue of his gory gang warfare classic, DEADBEAT AT DAWN (1988). He states, "I'm very pleased to announce that DEADBEAT AT DAWN has found its new home with the impeccable Arrow Films," and confirms it's slated for a new 4K transfer from the original 16mm A/B rolls under his supervision. Should be a solid release; hopefully they'll include the shorts collection that accompanied the earlier Dark Sky DVD.

Have somehow never even heard of this, but it sounds amazing and perfect for Arrow.

Looking forward to it down the 2018 road.

Worth hanging on to the DVD anyway, if you like extras. The Dark Sky DVD has VanBebber's short films, and the earlier Synapse DVD has the Chunkblower promo short, plus commentary for it and the movie (and Skinny Puppy's "Spasmolytic" video).

After seeing The Manson Family years ago, I always wanted to check this out but couldn't find a reasonably priced copy. Will do a blind-buy if Arrow does actually release it.

Will anyone from Arrow be getting unhinged voicemails this time around?

Saw it on the big screen about 20 years ago with a packed audience. It went down a storm!

If you have only seen the DVD edition it, you can't appreciate how much work went into cleaning it up - removing the splices from every edit was only a single factor. According to legend, Van Bebber was fuming when he saw that the splices had been taken out, as well as all of the other meticulous work which went into it.

Here's a lengthy promo trailer for a foreign DVD -- it contains some of the highlights, so if you haven't seen the film before, view at your own risk:

This takes me back to my first horror film festival where Exploited Video (now Severin Films) were selling uncut VHS tapes of Deadbeat at Dawn under the counter has the BBFC had not passed it in the UK. Can't believe that grimey low-fi action flick is getting the Arrow 4K treatment, looking forward to seeing the results.

I would pay triple if Arrow commissioned a rifftrax commentary. This movie clearly needs one.

Is it really that cheesy?

I'm all for a good riffing, but this is a legitimately kick-ass flick. VanBebber is great at what he does.

Official announcement from Arrow:

Quote:
The rumours are true… DEADBEAT AT DAWN is heading to Arrow Video in 2018 to coincide with the films 30th anniversary!

We are so excited to confirm that we’ve picked up Jim Van Bebber’s cult classic for the UK and US and if that wasn’t enough, Jim will be working with us on the release!

We are still in the early stages of this project so haven’t set a release date just yet however if you have any questions for Jim about the film let us know via the comments below and we’ll do our best to get these answered on the disc.

So this isn't a film about an estranged dad who doesn't want to pay child support so he goes on a killing rampage at cul-de-sacs?

When last submitted to the BBFC (in 1999), MY SWEET SATAN was cut by 20 seconds. I'd be curious to see if it would make it through unscathed nowadays.
