Well, Thor is an older digital copy so you'll have to use iTunes and the disc. It'll transfer an SD copy but you can delete and download the HD copy from iCloud.

There isn't a DMA specific code but once the iTunes redemption is done, it'll be in DMA. You might have to link and unlink your iTunes account in DMA to push it through.

Thanks Steve Dave I thought so ugh I guess I will have to contact iTunes support like I did when I tried to get Captain America The First Avenger into my dma account. It's just a huge hassle cause even if I tell them I was supposed to get an HD copy with my digital code they may say I only get what came with the code. With Captain America 1 I only got a standard definition copy. This really is a huge waste of my time.I was really hoping there would be an easier way. Because although they did it last time for me I'm not quite sure they would do it this time. Would contacting Disney movies anywhere work especially if I have the original receipt work. Isn't a Disney movie on Disney Movies Anywhere now anyways. Anyone know why when Disney re released the 3d bluray to best buy and other stores they didn't include a Disney movie rewards point code instead of the original paramount digital copy code sheet?

Ps Steve Dave I really don't think unlinking and relinking my dma account with iTunes would do anything other than get me a sd copy when I want an HD copy.

When you redeem an iTunes/XML version of Disney movie and your DMA account is linked to your iTunes account, your SD movie will be automatically upgraded from SD to HD. If you previously downloaded/copied the SD version, the HD version won't be visible. You need to delete your local SD iTunes copy first and then the HD version should appear. If it still doesn't show up, you will need to unlink and relink your DMA as it probably had an issue synchronizing your purchases. You would not be the first to experience that issue and the advice is spot on.

Except last time when I downloaded Captain America The First Avenger the version of the movie I got was the old paramount version from when paramount released the movie which is no longer available to buy on the iTunes Store but is available via the xml code. The version I did not end up getting was the version when Disney rerelease the movie to the iTunes Store in 2013 and got rid of the paramount version. So how do I know I won't just end up receiving the paramount 2011 version and not the 2013 Disney rerelease version like last time.

You will get the Paramount license but that doesn't have anything to do with SD versus HD. Cap 1, Thor 1, and Iron Man 2 all have the same issue. I don't believe, but can't say with authority, that the content itself is any different between the two with the notable exception of iTunes Extras. You can watch the extras with the DMA app. Not as elegant but no other option right now.

Disney didn't re-release the Marvel movies to iTunes in 2013. They simply had Apple change the studio name and added the iTunes extras.

Any Marvel digital movie prior to The Avengers is actually a Paramount digital movie. Just the studio name change under the description. Apple never removed anything from their servers.

You are always going to have the Paramount version because the Paramount's name is legally tied as distribution partner to the pre-Avengers films. Disney did pay Paramount a special fee for the films up to & including Iron Man 3. I'm not sure if it also covered Thor: The Dark World. Disney is also paying Paramount a fee for the future Indiana Jones films.

And as we said, unlinking and linking iTunes to DMA will fix issues like HD upgrades not occuring and/or movies not showing up in another service. But before you do that, you need to check under Purchases to see if an HD copy is there. If it's there, delete the SD one and download the HD.

It was actually cheaper on Disney's behalf to just reuse Paramount's existing stock until depleted then have Blu-ray only stock created.

Is it still true now that Thor, Captain America and Iron Man 2 will take the SD iTunes copy and add it to DMA as HD? I sold all of these a while ago as I do with all of my SD iTunes codes. Are there any other movies that this applies to? Thanks.

Right, but are there other movies that are not Disney branded such as the three mentioned that are a part of DMA? Is the only way to find out searching in the DMA app or website?
