Default Is it worth buying blu-rays or wait for 4k

So my question is guys, I've stopped buying blu-rays because the whole 4k deal. What do you guys think? is it worth buying blu-rays or are they going to re-release all these movies in 4k. I have almost 300 blus, imagine if I have to buy them now in 4k. What is your opinion on the matter. Thanks!

I'm not switching to another format after just starting with Blu-rays a few years ago. There are still lots of movies yet to be released on Blu, so I think the UHD Blu (is that what you mean by 4K?) offerings will have even less to choose from. I'm not bothering with it.

IMO, more than half of what has been release on Blu-ray will not be released on the 4K format during the first 7 years. Unless you have a huge Home Theatre, you probably can't see the difference between 4K and 1080P in my view. I still have several hundred Laserdiscs that haven't been released on Blu-ray. Have you stopped using your PS-3 or buying anything for it since the PS-4 came out? I will continue to buy what is available, which for some TV series has meant getting them on DVD and am happy with what I see. Enjoy life and don't worry so much what may or may not happen in the years ahead in media...it's not that much in the big picture.

I don't think that it is worth it. I'll just leave it at that because my opinion will likely unintentionally spurn on some heated debate.

Is going to be too much of a niche market. Besides, how clear do you want films to be?

I've already stopped buying them and am selling them off (I suggest you do to) while they are still being sold used at a decent price point. Before you know it you will only be getting <$1 per movie, like DVD.

Im waiting on the "big 7" merger in 2nd quarter of 2016. We will see all of the current blus released in true 4K and they have deals with over 20 other studios to release the rest in 4K.

I really appreciate your guys opinions. I've held off on buying movies, just for the simple fact that I thought a lot of them were going to get remastered in 4k. I'm going to start buying again. I been holding off on buying a 4k television, because of the lack of content out there for it. Thanks guys.

Dont stop buying blu ray. I'd put the chances of uhd blu ray succeeding w/mainstream at less than 1%.

Thus, either the format will fail or be ridiculously expensive niche. Plus, not even that many movies will really benefit that much from 4k.

DVDs are still beating Blu-rays in sales and you really think UHD is going to take off?

Yes it's worth buying blurays. I think 4k ultra HD is slot of hype. But each to there own. I think it's stupid to stop buying blurays when this is going to be extreamly niche. I don't think ultra HD blu will catch on at all. Vast majority of people will get no benefit from it anyways. Bluray and DVD is going to be the dominant formats. Ultra HD will have a small selection kinda like oh let's say Wii U lol.

They have deals to have all current bluray AND DVD titles be remastered in 4K. This is being funded by the Big 7 as well as many other private funding sources worldwide. This has been MPA and DGA approved. Not to mention all major Cable and Television studios are in the contract too.

Welcome to the future.

I don't plan on buying a UHD TV for at least another 5 years, so I'll continue buying 1080p BDs. If I see a UHD/BD combo in the future for a movie I want, I might pick it up for future proofing. HOWEVER, I have no plans to upgrade my current collection.
