I personally prefer plasma to most LCD's, but it would definetely be tempting to get one of the xbr4's if I were buying a new tv.

I heard that Plasma TV's have a much less lifespan than LCD's. I liked Plasmas better until someone in the business told me about this.

I gave a 51 inch Hd CTR, ISF calibrated, and i have yet to see a LCD that could touch it.I have seen a couple of very expensive plasma that were about as good, but were close to $10,000.It is very big and heavy and only does 1080i but the black levels are the best and was not very expensive and bluray and high def tv look amazing.

I love my Toshiba 46H83 46" HDTV Projection TV (CRT)

Best buy I ever made 4 years ago. It was the best ranked TV for Christmas 2003 in it's class/size said Consumereports.org

Technical Details

46-inch widescreen HD-compatible projection television with DVI-HDMI input; 43.375 x 40.5 x 21.875 inches (W x H x D)

CrystalScan HDSC coverts all 480i and 480p signals (as from progressive-scan DVD players and DTV set-top boxes) to high-definition 1080i

3D Y/C digital comb filter with Vertical Contour Correction accurately processes RF (broadcast, VCR) and composite-video (DVD, VCR, camcorder) signals

HD Window dual-tuner POP with PIP sound

PowerFocus HD II CRTs offer 10 percent more brightness and 25 percent better sharpness than standard CRTs

Proud of my TV Everyone asks me if it's an LCD.

DLP. Since it's the only large screen 1080p set I can afford.

I have a 65" Hitachi HD CRT Television fully calibrated and like you I have not seen anything that can touch it when it comes to black level or contrast. Now, does that mean that one day I won't go front projection and sacrifice those qualities, no, but as far as a TV goes nothing beats a good-great CRT TV in contrast and black level.

I have a 50" sony SXRD 1080p rear projection and it comes no where close to my 46" XBR4, the only other tv ive seen that has a better PQ then the XBR4 is the Samsung 71 series.

I started with a Panasonic Plasma and got an BRAVIA LCD to too

They both have their pros and cons, so neither is significantly better then the other.
