Imperfect but a lot of fun.
It's the latest series from Jenji Kohan (exec. producer of Orange is the New Black and G.L.O.W) Reminds me of Veronica Mars. Thought the satirical elements would have a bit more bite. Character work is quite good considering how silly the premise of the show is. Hope it gets a second season! |

It’s an excellent show. The two leads are so funny and sweet. Perfectly cast and written. I encourage anyone put off by the 1%’er southern christian gun-nut surface; the girls are not prejudiced and their takes on christianity are very cute for the most part. There are some very good surprises along the way.
I really hope we get more. Of course, this being a Netflix show, I won’t hold my breath... |

Thought this was just okay overall. It started out well, though I found some of the humor to be forced, and just heavy-handed. The sisters have great chemistry, and have a lot of funny banter, but sometimes they're just a bit too extra for my tastes.
The show really starts to go downhill the further it goes along, and turns into a teenage soap opera. I actually thought the show would have more to do with the bounty hunting aspect, since you know, the title is literally Teenage Bounty Hunters, but no. As the show goes on, bounty hunting is just an afterthought, and it becomes more about the girl's relationships, one of which is completely fantasized to the point that I have to question how it was predominantly women that wrote, directed, and produced this show. That particular relationship is unrealistic to the point of being insulting to that group. There are some touching moments in the show too though, and the show does a pretty good job of showing many of the insecurities that teenagers have to deal with, even if it's retreading a lot of the ground covered by stuff like Mean Girls, and Booksmart already. Far and away, the best character on the show is Bowser, played by the rarely seen Kadeem Hardison, who looks nearly unrecognizable from his Different World days. I loved his character. He has a tough and gritty temperament, but a lot of heart. His character, and backstory feels very film noir-esque. I relaly hope this show gets him some notice, and we see him in some movies in the future. Then there's the twist, and cliffhanger at the end of it. The twist, I can sort of accept, even though it's kind of already been done by another Netflix show already. The cliffhanger however leaves a gaping plot hole. [Show spoiler] So yeah, the show is trying to have it both ways.As far as a show for entertainment purposes, it does the job well enough, I just wish it was a bit more refreshing. At the end of the day, it still falls victim to same clichéd relationships, and tropes of so many other shows before it. Last edited by MifuneFan; 10-04-2020 at 04:26 PM. |
