George A. Romero's classic Dawn of the Dead will be returning to 250 Regal theaters from October 28-31, featuring the 3D conversion done by producer Richard Rubinstein (booo).

Yep. I hate to give Rubinstein money, but I will probably go to one of the screenings as it could be my only chance of seeing it in theaters, or at all. I wish they had some day time showtimes near me too.

I've never seen this theatrically either so will almost definitely be going. Not sure how I feel about the 3D addition. It's playing at three theaters here and one of them has a 3:15 showing. The other two don't start until 7:00.

I've been lucky enough to see Dawn 3 times in theaters (Theatrical and Extended), 1 time at the drive in (4K Restoration of the Extended). I'm seeing this only because then I can say I have. I hate to give Rubenstein money, but at this point I have the near perfect edition of Dawn via Second Sight, so I figure why not.

That must have been a German autoconversion. The Rubinstein conversion cost several millions and as far as I know this is the first time it's being released. There is more info in the 3D forum in the Dawn of the Dead thread.

Even though it's in 3D, it's really hard to pass up a screening of Dawn. Saw it a couple years back at a sold out Alamo Drafthouse screening in KC and it was one of the best screenings I've ever been to. Before the movie started, some dude introduced it and asked the crowd how many people have seen it before and barely anybody raised their hand.
It was the most attentive audience I've ever been in a screening of an older film. It was so cool hearing everybody talk about it after it ended like it was a film that just came out. |

Saw the film at my local shopping centre a few years ago. I spoke to the organisers and became a zombie in exchange for a free ticket. I basically had to get into character and hound poor filmgoers prior to the feature start, lmao.

I was able to see Dawn on the big screen last year on Halloween night. Unfortunately it was the Argento Cut, which is still extremely kickass, but not the "real" movie imo. I would kill to finally see the US Theatrical Cut on the big screen but not in a needless 3D conversion. I'd even be extremely content with an old rundown print from back in the day. That would give the film a great exploitation/grindhouse look and feel.

This jackoff held on to this for so damn long, and, was supposedly asking for so much money to screen this, that he can hit the bricks. He spent $6 million on a 3-D conversion for a movie that didn't even cost 3/4 of one million to make!
I'll imagine how good it was while I watch my UK set. Last edited by oneway23; 08-23-2022 at 04:25 PM. |

Wow! The 3D is the only reason I'm even considering this. I must have seen this movie 20 times and there are people complaining about it being in 3D. Just close one of your eyes and shut the f#$k up.
